Welcome to this weeks spec. This is where we pick the winners each week we (or shall I say myself) think will be spec worthy, a great read or just cool looking art on the cover.
The CHU Member Choice Nominations to get all you people to nominate your favorites for 2021 on the forums and I’m going to extend this yet again another week because no one is making any nominations. So if you haven’t done so already, go nominate creators and such so we can compile the top lists to vote and see who ends up as the best of the best for 2021!
It’s a bigger week, particularly for Marvel, so hang tight!
Marvel Picks
Daredevil Woman Without Fear #1 is a book I’m hoping is at least a good read. There’s also a pretty cool John Romita Jr. Ratio Variant, I know right? Who would have thought I’d actually be liking a JRJ cover… Midtown still has them for $27.00, these are already getting listed for $35 range so it’s one to watch for sure.
The Bartel Variant is the one to nab at a low price. Only one listing at time of writing on eBay getting listed at $125 range. Besides the A cover, it’s the best overall for this first issue.
Death of Doctor Strange Bloodstone #1 is a must. The design variant is already moving up the value ladder and honestly, the Maria Wolf is just pretty damn awesome if you ask me. Most shops already sold out of all covers but Midtown does still have the design variant but at $40.00.

Devils Reign Superior Four #1 I’m hoping is a good read. I really liked the past “Superior” titles. If there’s any spec and heat, that’s just a bonus.
I love them keeping Hawkeye Kate Bishop #3 as black and white. Just a sweet cover!
Anything can happen in a Star Wars comic so they’re just musts as they’re just good short and long term spec. Star Wars Bounty Hunters #20 hits shelves this week.
Star Wars Bounty Hunters #20 (Sprouse Lucasfilm 50th Variant)
Star Wars #20
Star Wars #20 (Christopher Action Figure Variant)
Star Wars #20 (Sprouse Lucasfilm 50th Variant)
The one I’m really looking forward to out of the Star Wars universe is Star Wars High Republic Eye of Storm #1. There’s a variant by Pacheco but honestly, Cover A is the best.
Star Wars High Republic Eye of Storm #1 (Artist a Variant)
DC Picks
Batman Urban Legends #11 (Cover B – Karl Mostert Variant) is a pick just because I like dogs and Batman should keep Ace around, way better sidekick than that lame ass Robin who always finds himself dead…
Joker #11 (Cover C – Kael Ngu Variant) is a cover that is classic Joker (I can just imagine during the chaos Joker is causing, he’s the type that would stop and hand a kid a lollipop) and the artwork is amazing. That’s why it made my picks this round.
Indie and Small Publisher Picks
Star Wars High Republic Adventures #12 is a must. IDW’s end is coming for Star Wars titles but this was a great volume. Let’s hope Dark Horse can keep us entertained moving forward.
I like Joe Hill’s writing so Joe Hill Rain #1 (of 5) is a definite check out.
Another great new title from Rosenberg is Whats the Furthest Place From Here #3.
Animal Castle #1 gets the second printing treatment. This one is definitely a book to watch as I think most retailers got heads up and normally indie titles first prints are still the more sought after in the long run.
Fantastic Giants Facsimile Edition is a cool facsimile book that has a pretty hefty cover price. I doubt most shops went heavy and most likely skipped over it.
Happy Hill #1 might be a good read. Comixtribe books have had their fair of spec and heat in the past, so might be worthy of checking out.
Regarding Matter of Oswalds Body #1 (of 5) (2nd Ptg Adlard) has a pretty cool variant cover for the second printing.
Not really a hot pick, but I think the A cover for Detective 1048 is phenomenal.
Detective 1048 could be a book that catches heat later. Great cover.
