Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 1/19/22

Every week, hundreds of new books hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday

Yes, finally a crazy good week, lots of great spec potential especially from Marvel. Here is what is on tap this week.

New #1’s
Angel #1 – Fans of Buffy-verse take note, Angel is relaunching for the fifth time.

Arrowsmith Behind Enemy Lines #1 – Kurt Busiek series returns to Image. Tons of covers on the book.

Bolero #1 – Interesting new Image series with a high cover price which may scare away some retailers from ordering heavy, and possibly buyers from investing money in it. A woman running away from a broken heart discovers a mother-key into parallel universes. The rules are: The key can work on any door. The mother will only let you visit 53 universes. Do not ask to speak to the mother. Never hop more than 53 times.

Ben Reilly Spider-Man #1 – Ben Reilly gets a spin off series which kicks off here.

Cursed Pirate Girl Devils Cave #1 – The series returns with a pricey number 1. The 1:10 Variant has asking prices of around $40 and with completed sales in the $49.99 range for both covers.

She-Hulk #1 – She-Hulk gets her own series again with the return of a Marvel Character not seen in a while, spoilers later.

Silk #1 – Silk kicks off a new mini series with rumor of a first appearance of a new villain, spoilers later.

Silver Surfer Rebirth #1 – Ron Lim and Ron Marz back on Silver Surfer. Someone has stolen the Reality Gem, an object that allows the user to fulfill any wish no matter the consequences! But whoever has taken it is doing things like bringing back the dead hero Captain Mar-Vell. It’s up to Silver Surfer to team up with the least likely of allies, Thanos, to find the Gem and restore reality to its proper form!

X Lives Of Wolverine #1 – story going across Wolverine’s history.

Notable Reprints
Apache Delivery Service #1 2nd Ptg – Awesome new horror series goes back for a second print.

Ones to Watch
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #125 – what is being called the first full appearance of the Punk Frogs, they did make an appearance on the last page of TMNT #124 which is a very cheap buy right now.

For the Cover

Amazing Spider-Man #86 Mike McKone Homage – I actually like this throwback homage to Amazing Spider-man #362.

Small Press Gem
White River Monster #1 – New Small Press horror book from Blood Moon Comics. May be overlooked by many stores. The White River Monster has eluded people for over a century. Manhunts were brought to a fever pitch in Newport, Arkansas, where people descended on the small town, determined to prove the existence of the river monster. But, it went unfound. For years, sightings were reported up and down the White River, but no physical evidence ever came forth. Soon the monster faded into obscurity and was dismissed as a legend never to be solved – until now!

Small Press Pick of the Week
Animal Castle #2 – A lot of heat coming off the first issue second issues tend to have a drop in print run as retailers generally do not know how a new series will sell. First issue was also a secondary market hit so worth the risk.

Variant of the Week
Moon Knight #7 Rahzzah Cover – Glad I pre-ordered a copy of this cover a while ago. Asking prices on eBay already in the $20 and up range with a high sale of $30 check Mycomicshop tonight to try and snag copies.

Picks of the Week
Strange Academy #15 – Sales in the $20 range for this cover appearance of Gaslamp. Check Mycomicshop tonight for copies.

Hulk #3 – Tons of exclusives on this one, so going with cover A myself, anyway, a new Hulk form gets some page time, cameo or first full will leave it up to you guys to decide, but still selling out at most online stores. Check Mcomicshop for copies tonight.

Venom #4 – And another winner with another new character appearance, again, first full, cameo, or second cameo you guys decide, but its there and will have more details tonight. Sold out at most big online retailers but check Mycomicshop tonight for cover priced copies.

    1. Ha, yeah, that’s an awesome one but try to stay away from the massively inflated ones as it may be next to impossible to grab.

  1. Should go for cover A. Selena on a stripper pole? How is hat not being discussed? I don’t find the 1:25 all that interesting.
