Poyo’s FOC Highlight Books for Last Call April 17th/18th 2022 ?

FOC is the last chance to put in your orders with your comic shops and likely get at a discount for pre-ordering.

It’s a smaller FOC week. A lot of reader issues and titles I think. So here’s the highlights from me where I think the real winners are some of the indie titles coming out.

Eight Billion Genies #1 (of 8) (Cover A – Browne) – A lot of exclusives but don’t let that stop you from picking up a copy. Can’t decide, always bet on A especially when it comes to Image titles. I like Soule and I like Browne, they did a great job on Curse Words so hoping this is another great read at minimum.

Eight Billion Genies #1 (of 8) (Cover C – Shalvey)

Tales from Harrow County: Lost Ones #1 is for you Harrow County fans.

Transformers Last Bot Standing #1 (Cover A – Roche) is just a great cover for a regular cover to this new Transformers title.

Hulk #5 (2nd Ptg Variant) gets the second print treatment.

Marvel loves quarter of the century numbers, any reason to celebrate to pump up those numbers with lots of variants so Thor #25 Frank Cover gets that special treatment this FOC. Lots of covers, gonna be plentiful but might still be worthy enough to grab a copy for any surprises.

Thor #25 (Greene Variant)
Thor #25 (Js Campbell Variant)
Thor #25 (Ron Lim Variant)
Thor #25 (Shaw Connecting Variant)
Thor #25 (Zullo Variant)
Thor #25 (25 Copy Jrjr Variant) – Not actually a bad cover. Definitely some of his better work.

Ballad of Ronan #1 (of 6) could be an interesting read. Claims if you like Once and Future, you’ll might like this one. Action Lab is normally overlooked and not ordered heavily so you’ll want to pre-order if interested, good chances it won’t be on the comic shop wall on new comic book day.

This is a no brainer for me, it involves World War and Nazi’s within. The war junkie reader in me can’t say no to Classified Jaeger (Cover A – Moustafa). It’s a bit pricier, collecting the digital version so don’t expect most shops to carry extras or even order this one.

A hardcover that has my attention is Gost 111 HC.

“Winner of the Angouleme 2021 Fauve Polar SNCF prize for “Best Thriller”
A dizzying dive into the world of police informants.
A model father but unemployed, Goran Stankovic accepts a shady job, gets ar-rested and has no other choice but to collaborate by becoming an informant. Stuck between thugs and the police, in a world of manipulation, Goran will have to play a perilous double game to get out of it. GoSt111 is as much a perilous thriller as a vertiginous dive into the unknown world of police informants.
A chiseled and hyper realistic dark story, brought to life by the expressive lines of Marion Mousse. Co-written by screenwriter Mark Eacersall, and Henri Scala, who was Commissioner of the French National Police for more than 20 years.”

Neverender #1 (Cover A – Kraft) looks like it has potential. The writing has to be on par though to keep me buying after the first issue. But I like this concept as I’m all for this dueling to the death stuff! (Ignore the regular cover at TFAW and I think they mixed up the others, clearly they got their images mixed up, view the images here)
