Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday
Hello Wednesday Warriors. It is another slow week this week. Hoping for some big surprises or something that catches people off guard, but barring that, here is what is on tap this week.
New #1’s
Avatar Adapt Or Die #1 – New series for the movie Avatar.
Blind Alley #1 – New small press Behemoth series. Jesús returns to the neighborhood where he grew up, La Esquina del Gato, a Sevillian suburban neighborhood where violence and the constant struggle against life’s adversities meet. His goal is to resume his relationship with Irene, his former girlfriend, and start a project together. With the help of Fae, his childhood friend, he tries to escape crime and marginalization, carving a niche for himself in the world of work and in society. But Vargas, the exalted brother of Fae, fans the flame of something that has been cooking for a long time … ‘El Irra has marked a work that is pure fire, a comic that is pure neighborhood poetry, pure fury and honesty.
Blood Syndicate Season One #1 – Return of the Milestone series.
Bunny Mask Hollow Inside #1 – The creepy horror series returns. Looking forward to reading this one.
Captain America Symbol Of Truth #1 – New Sam Wilson focused Cap series.
Devils Highway Vol 2 #1 – I like AWA comics and this was a good read.
Frank Frazettas Death Dealer Vol 2 #1 – Frank Frazetta’s most famous work returns to comics.
Hulk vs Thor Banner Of War Alpha – Starts the Starship Hulk vs Thor crossover.
Infinite Horrors Magazine #1 – Pricey new horror mag. Cannot see shops going heavy on it.
Tales From Harrow County Lost Ones #1 – Return to Cullen Bunn’s Harro County. Always a good read.
Ones to Watch
Jurassic League #1 – Oddball Dinosaur Justice League series by a fan favorite creator Daniel Warren Johnson. Store will probably not go big on it. Just fun.
Spawn #329 – A Hellspawn from the past appears, new one I wonder? Anyway Cover C is sold out and was limited to 1 at Midtown.
Small Press Gem
Eight Billion Genies #1– Ryan Browne from God Hates Astronauts has always been cool with us. He and Charles Soule return for their first collaboration since Curse Words.
Small Press Pick of the Week
Grim #1 – Very Cool new series from Boom. Now, I know the book has a ton of covers, and sold a ton of copies. This doesn’t detract me from grabbing a copy or two to stash for later.
Pick of the Week
