Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 5/18/22

Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday

Gonna preface this by saying it is not the biggest or best week in comics, some interesting books out but not a lot of spec gold. Anyway, here is what is on tap for tomorrow

New #1s
Duo #1 – New DC Milestone series. When Milestone returned, Reginald Hudlin and Denys Cowan weren’t planning to stop there! Now they wel-come you to a whole new realm of original characters, extending far beyond Dakota…welcome to Earth-M! Nanotech engineers Dr. Kelly Vu and Dr. David Kim are committed to only one thing more than each other: using their regenerative nanobots to save the world. And following a violent attack, those very same nanobots end up saving David and Kelly’s lives…sort of. Their salvation comes with an unexpected consequence: husband and wife awaken to realize that they now share one super-powered body!

78 MPH #1 – Post apocalyptic small press book. Earth is no longer what it used to be. An environmental catastrophe transformed the atmosphere into a large magnifying glass that enhances solar radiation; a nuclear disaster slowed down the speed of rotation of the planet. Anyone that moves slower than 78 miles per hour will not escape from the scorching sun. Only a small group of people was able to survive on this new world by constantly moving in huge rolling city, never stopping.

My Brother Teddy #1 – New Source Point Press book, reminds me of a more grown up Herobear and the Kid. Remember when you were a kid lost in your imagination with your toys scattered across the floor? You with your favorite toy; maybe it was a cowboy, an action figure, a doll or a teddy bear. It doesn’t matter which one you had because we’ve all felt that unbreakable bond that a kid has with their favorite toy. But what if that bond was tested? What if the bond was so strong, the toy took on a life of its own to leap into hell with the hope of returning you home?

Spectreman Heroes #1 – For Ultraman and Kaiju fans. Antarctic Press, in conjunction with P-Productions and Phase 6, is proud to announce Spectreman Heroes, a nostalgia-blast of retro Japanese live-action superbeings! Each issue of Spectreman Heroes will showcase a different character in their own full-length story, with art by luminaries such as Matt Frank (Godzilla Legends), Hiroshi Kanatani (Coaraptor), and Ben Dunn (Ninja High School). In this issue, police agent Yutaka Daimon commands the mighty Electroid Zaborger, riding its motorcycle mode into battle against the criminal Sigma Gang! We’ve got a full-on P Productions Parade in this power-packed variant cover by Matt Frank! Suit up and charge into your local comic store to reserve your copy today-for great justice!

Ones to Watch
Elektra Black White & Blood #4 – Rumors of a Turtles crossover as Kevin Eastman does Elektra. That’s a big negative. However a very cool Eastman story all the same.

Star Wars Doctor Aphra #20 – Rumor that Aphra may bond with the Spark Eternal, spoilers later.

For the Cover
Great Week for cover art.

Catwoman #43 Jeff Dekal Cover – I tend to like Poison Ivy covers better, but this is a fun cover featuring Harley and Catwoman.

Immortal X-Men #2 Kaare Andrews Spider-Man Cover – had this one on the forum when the cover art was first revealed. I like the Emma Frost in a sexy anti-venom style costume. Andrews nailed it.

Variant of the Week

Fantastic Four #43 Superlog Variant – Awesomely stylistic Superlog cover. Has been selling for about 2x ratio.

Small Press Pick of the Week.
I Hate This Place #1 – AKA F@#K This Place, After inheriting a farm house, Trudy and Gabby are ready to start the next chapter of their lives together…except it’s already home to a mysterious force that’s attracted ghosts, aliens, and all kinds of supernatural beings for decades. Now, Gabby and Trudy must play by the “house rules” in order to survive living among the most frightening creatures on Earth in this new series

Pick of the Week
Savage Avengers #1 – New series which includes Anti_Venom and Weapon H, glad to see them back in action.

  1. the superlog cover is an incentive so selling for 2x cover is not impressive….
