Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 6/1/22

Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday

Hello Wednesday Warriors. Another slower week, but some seriously cool flip potentials. Anyway, here is what is on tap:

New #1’s
Artist Elite Primer Red #1 – New company, new universe, based off artists (so stories may be subjective) anyway, looking forward to checking it out.

Neverender #1 – New series from Behemoth. All covers sold out at Midtown and TFAW. The year is 2X19 and due to breakthroughs in artificial accelerants, mankind has taken to the stars. At the edge of civilization, the dominant sport is a civilized sword duel to the death. The rules are simple: ‘ The Duel Must Be Agreed Upon by Both Crows ‘ A Time and Place Must Also Be Agreed Upon ‘ Both Duelists Must Acknowledge Each Other ‘ Only Two Crows May Duel at a Time ‘ A Crow Must Have Direct Contact to His Weapon ‘ Once the Kill is Confirmed the Match is Over In the city of riots, Merrick, a disaffected terrestrial youth fights for his survival. Smash the City. Smash the State. Burn it all, Escape to Space

New Think #1 – New AWA series. Black Mirror-style anthology examines the rapid proliferation of technology, the cultural and political polarization of the country, and the technocrats that have driven us to such extremes of thought that we need to present the present as something…futuristic. Each of the five issues is a stand-alone tale with its own art team

Cyberpunk 2077 Blackout #1 – It hurts. Night City hurts. The suffering runs deep and the deeper one falls, the longer the self-prescribed dreams play. Fortune, hope, love–all made possible by DMS technology. But not everyone desires a happy ending. A braindance repairman discovers the answer to pain . . . comes in a blackout. The third comic series from Dark Horse based on CD Projekt Red’s hit video game Cyberpunk 2077

Justice League Road To Dark Crisis #1 – The Justice League has tragically fallen in battle, and now we see the aftermath. How does the world react to the Justice League being gone? Which heroes rise up…and which villains try to take advantage? And what dark forces are lying in wait to attack? An all-star roster of DC talent showcases a world without a Justice League and sets the stage for next month’s Dark Crisis event!

Phalanx #1 – Image book celebrating the 30th anniversary. Inspired since 1992 by the series that launched Image Comics, writer and artist JONATHAN LUNA (ALEX + ADA, 20XX) creates an homage to honor its 30th anniversary with THE PHALANX! Spur, a mercenary in modern-day Los Angeles, chases a mysterious villain and finds herself going through a portal and running into a famous superhero team. They realize they have a common goal.

Ones to Watch
Strange #3 – New Strange series is trucking right along. Rumor of a new character appearance.

Avengers Forever #6 – This has been a fun series full of alternate world Marvel Characters. This time, an alternate universe Black Panther appears.

Hardcover of the Week
Bikini Atoll HC – This one has it all, Sharks (I do love sharks), Christophe Bec writing, I loved his Carthago, also about a shark, and cheesecake cover. Bikini Atoll and its turquoise waters attract tourist and divers from all over the world. This celestial paradise has not only given its name to the world’s most famous bathing suit, but it was also used as a nuclear testing ground by the United States for over 40 years. Today the island’s unreachable crevasses and impenetrable forests conceal many mysteries and dangers!

For the Cover

Vampirella Dracula Unholy #6 Zoe Lacchei Cover – Vampirella books have some pretty cool covers. I have been a fan of Zoe Lacchei’s style since she first came on the scene. Great artist.

Star Wars Darth Vader #23 Chris Sprouse Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary Cover – Just a cool cover with a different take on the Bad Batch than we have seen

Notable Reprints
Moon Knight #1 Facsimile Edition – Not much needs to be said. These facsimile editions have been doing well as people cannot always afford the originals. The reprint the original issue, ads and all, and are great collectors books and lace holders in the collection.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Closet #1 – New Image horror series from James Tynion that looks decent. Will have a big print run but still looks to be a great read and a must for Tynion fans.

Pick of the Week
Miles Morales Spider-Man #38 – Miles’ sister Billie is all grown up in this alternate universe tale. She is Spider-Smasher… Since it is an alt world tale, and back home she is a baby, it may not stick but the book has a lot of interest in it. Currently, the 1:10 Design Variant is performing the best, at or slightly above cover with a high sale of $18.96

The Flip of the Week
Grim #1 2nd Ptg – Boom plus the word allocation equals FOMO. These are selling for as high as $99 for one lucky seller with asking prices above that. This is the classic “grab it and sell it” if you can find them.

The Stretch Goal
Star War Rebels TP Variant Thank You Cover -From what I see currently, there are only two up on eBay for auction sold prices hitting anywhere from $40 to $80
