Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 12/20/22

Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday

Hey Wednesday Warriors. Holidays are here, which means a couple of light weeks. Here is what is on tap:

New #1’s
Bones Of The Gods #1 – Twenty years after an epic battle between the world’s two Gods, civilization has re-emerged from the ashes of that confrontation. The Gods destroyed each other during the epic fight, their shattered bones raining down below. It is said that these bone shards contain incredible power… if you can find one… if they even really exist. Esper Haddon is sixteen years old and frustrated with her life. She’s the daughter of a protective warrior-turned-farmer, but she wishes for something, anything exciting to happen. However, after she discovers the bone of a God buried on her farm and dark forces come hunting for her, she may soon regret that wish.

Dead Seas #1 – Ghosts are real and dangerous. But they’re also valuable, their ectoplasm capable of curing countless diseases. There’s only one problem: harvesting the wonder drug can be just as deadly. Prisoner Gus Ortiz is willing to take the risk in return for a reduced sentence—anything to see his daughter again. All it will take is a few months at sea scraping ectoplasm off the walls of the Perdition, a floating prison containing the most vicious ghosts on Earth. Surrounded by dark waters, Gus soon realizes that angry spirits are the least of his worries. The Poseidon Adventure meets The Haunting of Hill House in this supernatural thriller

Ghost Planet #1 – A family of deep space explorers rushes to solve the mystery of Ghost Planet before their recently-dead loved ones return to kill them next! Murder birds, eye stalks and space pigs abound in this 40-page graphic novella. Ghost Planet is a classic sci-fi tale with a body horror twist.

Unwanted #1 – A group of teens are abducted and brought to a secluded, tropical island with no explanation, no supplies and no way off. Left to their own devices and forced to find a way to survive, they soon discover they aren’t alone-and their fellow inhabitants are hostile! Things become more complicated when boxes begin to appear on the beach near their camp with weapons and supplies of unknown origin inside. Part Lord of the Flies, part Hunger Games, this is a story of survival where you can’t trust anyone

One and Done
C.R.O.W.BAR 9 80-Page Giant #1 – Reprinting a 2 issue series from the 90’s with the unpublished third issue. Has that home made 90’s art feel.

Curse Of Cleaver County Double Feature – Set in the one of the deadliest fictional locations in the world, the Curse of Cleaver County follows some of the most grotesque, gruesome, and gorefueled killers as they haunt, horrify, and harrow the peaceful residents!

For the Cover

Catwoman #50 Sozomaika Cover – Hope she doesn’t choke on the diamond. Great looking cover.

Mary Jane And Black Cat #1 J Scott Campbell Cover – I am a fan of JSC. There is a “Hughes Demonized variant” that doesn’t really look like Hughes’ style.

Ninja Funk #2 David Nakayama Cover – I do not know much about this character but very cool all the same.

Stuff Of Nightmares #4 Ariel Olivetti Homage Cover – sold out at TFAW and Midtown, people love the video game homages.

One to Watch
Dark Crisis On Infinite Earths #7 – New characters appear, including a very cool looking Riddler/Batman mashup. Spoilers later. There are 1:25, 1:50, and 1:100 variants available.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Werewolf x The Society Of Fearless Frontiersmen – Originally Werewolf was a giveaway for one of the pin redemptions and never to be reprinted again, except, it has been. Glad, because I wanted to check it out.

Pick of the Week
Resident Evil Infinite Darkness The Beginning #1 – Even though the Netflix series was kinda panned. I will throw support behind a RE comic any day.
