As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.
#11 SPIDER-MAN NOIR #1 DENNIS CALERO VARIANT COVER | MARVEL | 2009
As mentioned in the Top Ten, this book is seeing some heat after the announcement Spider-Man Noir would be receiving the live-action treatment. That caused fan curiosity to boom as Nicholas Cage is probably too old to play a live-action Spider-Man Noir and will not return for SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE. That leaves the door open for a new face and voice to step into the role, spurring speculation. Fans immediately moved to grab the more affordable Calero variant before more news could propel it further out of reach. We tracked 23 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 141%, with a high sale of $300 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a raw NM FMV of $79.
#12 SUPERMAN / BATMAN #8 MICHAEL TURNER 2ND PRINT | DC | 2004
We covered this book at our #1 spot. Fans had a bit of whiplash when they became aware we would be getting Kara instead of Lara. In an attempt to play catch up, the buying spree extended to the 2nd print. Sales are in line with the first printing, so this boils down to preference on full color or sketch variant. Lucky day for fans! We tracked 17 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 259%, with a high sale of $85 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw VF FMV of $6.
#13 BATMAN #132 STANLEY ARTGERM LAU FOIL (1:50) | DC | 2023
Artgerm variants typically receive plenty of love, but Catwoman ones receive even more. This book adds to the trend, as collectors opted to pick up the 1:50 foil of the regular Cover C (which can be had much cheaper). Fans dig it and will continue grabbing these variant covers anytime they drop! We tracked 30 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 102%, with a high sale of $83 for an NM raw copy and an NM FMV of $33.
#14 CAPTAIN AMERICA #139 | MARVEL | 1971
Per the Cosmic Circus, Leila Taylor has been cast in CAPTAIN AMERICA: NEW WORLD ORDER, with many thinking she will be played by Xosha Roquemore. This film has flown under the radar, and all fans have to speculate on is the title and a few casting announcements. With each new report, though, there is a new round of spec, and this book falls under that banner. It features the first appearance of Leila Taylor, a love interest of Sam Wilson. We tracked 20 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 152%, with a high sale of $100 for an NM- raw copy with a VG FMV of $12.
#15 LEGENDS #1 | DC | 1986
Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, will be one of the few familiar faces in the new DCU. Being that the character has her fingers in just about everything, it’s fitting she would receive a TV series as well. Her first appearance remains hot after it flashed in our Top Ten immediately after the announcement. Expect to see more of that as news filters out. We tracked 31 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 92%, with a high sale of $175 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a raw VF FMV of $8.
#16 BATMAN #657 | DC | 2006
James Gunn is on record stating Damian is his favorite version of Robin, and the fact he’s pumped to see the father-son dynamic has fans pumped. This book is Damian’s second appearance, though many like to call it his first FULL appearance. It’s also his first cover appearance, and first appearance in a Robin costume, though he’s not OFFICIALLY Robin yet. We tracked 22 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 123%, with a high sale of $42 for a raw copy and a VF FMV of $17.
#17 SWAMP THING #1 | DC | 1972
Fans are excited at the return of Swamp Thing. He was canceled in the ill-fated DC Universe streaming service too soon, and fans have been searching for something to fill the void. Many got a *taste* when they saw Man-Thing in WEREWOLF BY NIGHT HALLOWEEN SPECIAL. Now that Gunn announced the community would receive a darker Swamp Thing based on Alan Moore’s classic run SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING, fans are elated to get the real deal. Many opted to pick up the first issue of his first solo series, as it’s an iconic cover featuring Swamp Thing. We tracked 19 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 139%, with a high sale of $775 for a CGC 9.2 copy and a raw FN FMV of $141.
#18 BATMAN BATTLE FOR THE COWL #3 | DC | 2009
Every Batman needs a Robin, right? What happens when more than one thinks they’re fit to wear the cowl? Naturally, they beat the crap out of each other. Dick Grayson defeats Jason Todd to become the new Batman in this issue, and he proceeds to get his Robin in Damian. He officially becomes the Boy Wonder in this book, and the fandom immediately loved it. We tracked 19 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 124%, with a high sale of $15 for a raw NM copy and a VF FMV of $8.
#19 SPAWN #1 | IMAGE | 1992
Spawn didn’t like not being on the runner-up list and found a place at the end of the list with 25 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 91%, with a high sale of $262 for a CGC 9.8. An FMV for a raw NM copy is $26. Ain’t no rest for the wicked, as they say!
#20 BOOSTER GOLD #1 | DC | 1985
Booster Gold was always thought of as a character that would be tough to adapt, primarily due to him being an under-the-radar character for many. Well, James Gunn said hold my beer and is making it happen. Booster’s first is one of the most straightforward books for fans to target, as this features his first appearance in comics and is front and center on the cover! We tracked 23 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 75%, with a high sale of $699 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a raw VF FMV of $53.
