So what the hell is that thing? What is “The Starweird?” The Starweird are a sentient species that can use the dark side of the force. Much like the Puurgil from Star Wars Rebels they lived out in open space and have been seen in hyperspace.
Much like a siren or classical depiction of a mermaid, they preyed on starships and spacer travelers by attacking their ships.
While they don’t speak, they can communicate telepathically and use this to their advantage when attacking ships by broadcasting a violently loud scream into their prey’s mind before attacking. Leaving them disoriented and defenseless.
The Starweird first appeared in the “Ultimate Adversaries” sourcebook for the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars Roleplaying game in 2004.
But Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #33 will be their first appearance in a comic and the first time they’ve been mentioned in canon.
We did know that the Starweird were going to be in the Aphra series though. Two covers for Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #34 have the Starweird on the cover and were officially revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London a few months back. I particularly dig the Kyle Hotz variant. It’s incredible.
Anyway, here are all of the variants for THIS issue, Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #33. I personally love the Aayla Secura variant by David Marquez. Long term and for my PC.

Well, that kills issue 34…showing up on several panels seems to qualify as a “full” appearance in 33.
I like the Secura cover…sold out at midtown.
