Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday
What is up Wednesday Warriors? Welcome to the dreaded fifth week edition. The dreaded fifth week is just that, the fifth Wednesday of the month, where publishers push out one shots, annuals, and specials to not throw off their publishing schedule. With that being said, there are a lot of one-shots. I am picking up some gold and silver age Batman slabs this week, but here is what is on tap;
New #1’s/Series
Amazing Spider-Man Gang War First Strike #1 – Gang Wars, Marvel’s new crossover kicks off.
Batman 89 Echoes #1 – Follow up to the 89 Batman movie written by Sam Hamm, the writer of the 89 Batman movie.
Basic Instinct #1 – Adaptation of the movie. An anonymous artist who draws their inspiration from famous murders has opened their newest exhibit surrounding the now infamous “Icepick Murder” centered around Catherine Tramell. However, when a security guard of the exhibit is murdered on it’s opening night, the art director responsible for the opening is thrust into an investigation that forces him to question his own involvement.
BRZRKR Fallen Empire #1 – Oneshot follow up to Brzrkr.
Crave #1 – New adult series from Image
Haunted House A Love Story #1 – Blood Moon Comics. A sentient house falls in love with its architect and sole occupant, but soon the architect falls for someone else and the house seeks vengeance. A tale of loss, horror, and overcoming grief.
Howard The Duck #1 – New Oneshot for Howard, new villain introduced.
Luke Cage Gang War #1 – Gang War crossover one shot.
Tales Of The Bizarre #1 – Dren Publications – brand new anthology series with the best and strangest sci-fi and horror tales we could create. Think about those old B-movies from the classic movie theaters (or stuff you might find playing on the Syfy channel today).The stories that you are going to find in this anthology are both thought provoking and obscure… just how we like them! In this issue, a pair of astronauts land on a deserted planet to take a survey for colonization, however they find that the planet isn’t as deserted as they thought it was and they accidentally kill the inhabitant’s queen. Can they make it off the planet before the citizens take their revenge?
Titans Beast World #1 – DC’s next big crossover starts.
Notable Reprints
Doom Patrol #99 Facsimile Edition – First appearance of Beast Boy gets the Facsimile treatment.
Uncanny X-Men #142 Facsimile Edition – Days of Future Past issue gets a facsimile, classic cover.
