Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday
What is up Wednesday Warriors? Big week for new #1’s but light on the spec side. However, there is a second print already heating up worth grabbing. Check out what is on tap:
New Series/#1’s
Blue Book 1947 #1 – Dark Horse – True life UFO stories from James Tynion and Michael Oeming.
The Cabinet #1 – Image – tongue-in-cheek adventure series, atypical teen Avani and midwestern jock Trent teleport across a post-Cold War landscape to collect bizarre relics. Why? Well, because they need to summon the arcane powers of a resplendent 17th-century cabinet to fix a teeny-tiny mistake the last time Avani used it… unleashing an ancient evil from its prison and accidentally slaughtering her parents.
Displaced #1 – Boom – The city of Oshawa, Ontario has vanished without a trace. Even worse, nobody remembers it or the 170,000 missing residents that disappeared along with it. As the survivors also fall into the forgotten, they must seek each other out, if they hope to have any chance of surviving in a world where no one believes they exist…
Dutch #1 – Image – The legendary ’90s super-soldier returns for an all-new adventure! An enemy from the past has forced Dutch back into the belly of the beast-but will his former teammates welcome him back? Or will a cybernetic kill team get to him first? It’s balls-to-the-wall action from the team of Casey and Gane! Plus: an exclusive variant cover by legendary Dutch creator Chap Yaep!
If You Find This Im Already Dead #1 – Dark Horse- Matt Kindt’s new book. Robin is a big city reporter, embedded with US Marines heading to the hostile pocket universe called Terminus. Ten minutes in, the entire marine squad is wiped out and she has to survive (and report) on her own. Terminus is full of cosmic wonders-and sci-fi “gods” that are in the middle of a political power struggle. The language is alien, and the politics are deadly. Can she survive long enough to figure out what’s going on and get home to tell the story?
The Infernals #1 – Image – Abraham “Abe” Morgenstern, the son of Satan, has one month to live. Before he dies, he must decide which of his three wayward children-volatile narcissist Nero, conflicted field operative Jackal, or troubled schoolgirl Bee-will inherit his shadowy empire. But will Abe ever be able to truly cede control of the Apocalypse? Or does the Antichrist have something else up his sleeve…
Lifeboat #1 – Critical Entertainment – In the Dark Era of space time, moments before particle decay unwinds the atomic fabric of father universe as we know it, Mae, Jacob, and Dove carry the faint, flickering torch of life through an endless void. This short story is about loss, fate, and the hope that we must hold dearly on our journey toward the ultimate unknown.
Night Thrasher #1 – Marvel – The death of a loved one draws Dwayne Taylor back to New York City, though his days as NIGHT THRASHER are long over. But Dwayne finds the past difficult to outrun when SILHOUETTE, his ex-teammate from the NEW WARRIORS, seeks his help against a new criminal called THE O.G. And the mystery of the O.G.’s true identity and what’s to come will change Night Thrasher’s legacy forever!
Planetary Expansion #1 – Critical Entertainment – Abandoning their lives on earth, 1,000 hand selected passengers aboard a Starship head to repopulate a new habitable planet. In another Solar System exists a planet just like Earth with fresh air, clean water, and sustainable life. They will brave the dangers of space and push past the limit to get there.
Sinister Sons #1 – DC – When the son of General Zod was cast off of his adopted homeworld of New Kandor, Lor-Zod runs afoul of a kid on a mission: Sinson is out to prove he’s got what it takes to live up to the family name of Sinestro! But all is not as it seems, and the sons’ journeys will take them into the heart of darkness in this sensational first issue!
For the Cover

Small Press Gem
Valentine Bluffs Massacre #1 – The 1981 slasher classic comes to comics with brand-new bloody stories for the first time! It’s the cult-classic slasher smash hit straight from the 1980’s – My Bloody Valentine! Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the mines! Harry Warden turned Valentine’s Day into one town’s personal nightmare with a hand on his pick axe and a heart full of revenge. Now, the terror has returned, and the body count is rising!
Small Press Pick of the Week
Penthouse Comics #1 – A lot of buzz behind the new Penthouse Comic being released. This is surely not for everyone because of adult themes. A dealer at a small show I was at this weekend had them out and they were selling like crazy.
