Hello CHU. Happy late Sunday/Monday. It’s time for another edition of F.OC. picks!
COVER ART
Wonder Woman is next to get the Absolute treatment. And if I’m grabbing a copy, I’m going for the Jeff Dekal cover.
I’ve been a fan of Dekal since his run of covers on Iron Fist several years ago. His style just pops out of the page with vibrant colors.
It’s a bit of a surprise the first print of this issue hasn’t don’t too much. Maybe just needs more time. Although the second print has Deadpool’s daughter in costume on the cover, issue #7 will come out prior and she is on that cover as well.
Maybe a long term hold on this one as it’s gotten plenty of notice for pre-orders.
Witness this crucial untold story within the vast Slaughterverse, detailing the mission preceding the fateful Archer’s Peak Saga, where the entire story began.
So looking like a prequel to issue #1, thus the #0. This variant order will actually be polybagged, so that you don’t know which one of the three covers (shown) you will get. Interesting…the only heat on this would be if any of the covers were short packed…
NEW STORIES & ARCS
Return to the fantastic alien realm of Symbion as the heroes of this classic ’80s toy line return to forge their legend anew in an all-new series from Oni Press and the Nacelle Company!
Did anyone here have Sectaurs as a toy growing up? I may have had one figure….
A genre-busting, apocalyptic odyssey about a group of metal kids who face a medley of bizarre foes and encounters in Portland, Oregon during a worldwide pandemic. Riley is a teen that sketches out his heavy metal future with a ballpoint pen between monster movies and band practice. But musical stardom needs to compete with high school, the temper of a former Riot Grrrl mother, the morbid obsessions of a goth sister, and the eccentricities of bandmates that threaten to drive him and everyone around him insane. The balance gets harder after a ritual during a party in Portland’s Forest Park causes him to wake up one day to discover that the creatures, witchcraft, and metal world he’s obsessed with may be a bit closer to home than he preferred.
New series from Dark Horse.
Long ago, the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne changed Gotham forever. But there is something you never knew about the Dark Knight’s tragic origin, which has been lying in wait to strike at Batman ever since that fateful night in Crime Alley. And now, all these years later, this ghost of Gotham’s past begins to reveal itself. Superstars Tom Taylor and Mikel Janin team up to bring you a Batman tale that will rattle the very foundations of the Dark Knight.
I may have to start picking up Detective again. Sounds like the start of a decent story arc. Cover is pretty sweet too.
On a post-apocalyptic Earth overrun by monsters, the battle between good and evil ended long ago–and evil won. Now darkness prevails as humanity struggles to survive in the corrupted wasteland that remains. Only one hero is said to haunt what’s left of our shadowed cities, the one who wields the mystical green flame that could return light to a dark world–The Green Lantern. But she’s been missing for years, and on the isolated island of New England, Solomon Grundy’s undead army only grows larger and more powerful every night…
New Green Lantern albeit an elseworlds tale.
INDY SPOTLIGHT
In this extra-length horror one-shot, Nolan Ward has done everything to forget his disturbing past. Drinking. Drugs. Day-trading. Sex. And still, that past has caught up with him in the form of a twisted painting called The Feeding… which eats people. And it’s hungry. Can Nolan stop this demon, or will he be devoured like so many others before him? a surreal journey into one man’s bloody psyche. A throwback to the vibes of Tales from the Crypt and Creepshow … when art is dangerous, no one is safe.
From the team of David M Booher and Drew Zucker of Canto fame. So you know the story and art will be good. And it’s only a one shot, so not a big investment!
PIC OF THE WEEK
Don’t miss the Marvel debut of manga superstar YUJI KAKU (HELL’S PARADISE) as he introduces a brand new Moon Knight with a violent past from a magical future!
There are a few new characters getting introduced this issue, but it’s the manga character (who looks like a mashup between Alice and the White Rabbit from Wonderland) that’s got my attention. Manga based marvel characters are hit or miss, but this one I will take a chance flier on. The sneaky sleeper book may be the variant cover by the interior artist, Yuji Kaku (shown below).
That’s it for this weeks FOC installment. Have a great week!
