Hey y’all! I can’t wait to dive into this week’s selection of blind bag variants!
Ok, maybe that intro is a few months premature…but you know after this last week’s crazy it’s inevitable. And until that day is upon us we’ll have to settle for normal reads and covers…
COVERS
The 2nd printing gave us the Sonic as Flash variant cover. I’m not up on my Sonic characters, but I believe this is Shadow(?) as Batman. Given the streak along the top of his head and red eyes.
The later printings featuring main DC characters may be lower print runs, possible spec. I’m putting a collection together anyway. The fun factor makes this book the Dirty D Cover-of-the-Week.
Avengers #27 Phineas & Ferb Variant
No idea why Marvel is deciding to do Phineas and Ferb variants…I’m not aware if something big is coming that they are advertising. But this appears to be the first “theme” variant like this for these characters…of how many?…I don’t know.
FIRST APPEARANCES
So when Bruce tries infiltrate it and distill its secrets, a new villain from Gotham City arrives to deal with the problem…an old adversary of Alfred’s…a man known only as Bane.
Bane makes his absolute debute in this issue. And he’s on Cover A. That’s good enough for me to pick it up.
An ancient artifact known as the SOUL FORGE has the power to collect all the souls on Earth! DOCTOR DOOM must stop it at all costs! Who is the mysterious SISTER SORROW, and what is her connection to DR. DOOM?
Part One of seven Villainous One-Shots. They seem to involve this “Sister Sorrow”’character. This seems to be her first appearance, and although she’s on incentive variants, she’s also on this open order variant.
JUST the FAX
Anyone who follows this weekly article knows how much I love Golden Age facsimiles of key covers in foil! Yes, the whole foil craze has died down significantly…but they still have their place in faxes!
Speaking of foil faxes…
WHAT’S GRINDING MY GEARS
You know what grinds my gears? Marvel’s decision making process when it comes to foil vs no foil facsimile editions.
I get it. Some of these facsimiles are key books that don’t have great covers to begin with…or maybe they just won’t look right as a foil. But FF49 is a classic cover begging to be foil-ized. Come on, Marvel. Don’t you want to make money?
NEW SERIES
It all begins when the daughter of Wonder Woman embarks on her most dangerous adventure yet to enter the timeline to find her father. As the young hero knows, messing with time has its consequences, but that doesn’t mean she learned her lesson the first time. Things are about to get ruff and the Super Sons have gone to the dogs. Prepare for a Crisis of Infinite Corgis!
Trinity gets her first series, albeit a mini series. There are a lot of covers, but below are a few that stand out to me.
And the Jonboy Meyers variant cover, homaging the death of Super Girl with a Crisis of Infinite Corgis theme.
Parting Thoughts
Short list this week. Seems to be the trend lately. Save up for more future blind comic packs!! Until next week, happy hunting!
