Rob Liefeld’s Prophet being looked at for movie

Just when you think Hollywood has optioned just about everything, something comes out of leftfield (or Liefeld as the case may be). Liefeld’s character Prophet is being looked at for a movie by Fox.

From CBR:

According to unnamed sources, Fox has shown interest in “Prophet,” which is reportedly being described as a mix between “The Martian,” “Mad Max” and “Avatar.” Originally introduced in 1992’s Youngblood #2, Prophet was initially conceived as a World War II-era super soldier that was placed in stasis by a time-traveling scientist who hoped Prophet could wake in the future and fight off an evil group called the Disciples.

The initial “Prophet #1” series was both written and drawn by creator Rob Liefeld, with additional art by Dan Panosian. Chuck Dixon and Stephen Platt launched a new series with the character in 1995. The series was restarted in 2012 by writer Brandon Graham and artist Simon Roy whose take included waking Prophet up 10,000 years in the future and put him in a dystopian, far-flung sci-fi setting.

This is a very low cost spec as many copies of Youngblood #2 are about $1 on eBay and about the same at Mycomicshop. His first appearance in Youngblood #2 is also still super cheap online and may be found in local quarter bins. Just something to keep an eye out for.

  1. Yeah, this book had a huge print run so I don’t think copies will be all that rare even if a movie deal is set in stone…which is still not certain.

    1. Agreed and agreed ocguy. Just pointing out the facts though. I do hope they make this movie in original style, with that head croissant thing he wore, purple outfit, no feet, and pouches.

  2. What I have noticed though that even with a huge print run some books do go to the $15 range. And I know this cuz I sold my Superboy #0&2 for around that price and the print run on those books is huge.

    1. I agree with that and it certainly may be the case if an official announcement is made in the coming months….not sure if you were collecting back in the early 90’s but many early Image titles just had enormous print runs even after the premiere issue. However $15 dollar range is possible for this book if all the movie stuff holds true. I think that would be the high end of the ceiling on average though.

      1. The thing that I have learned about 1990’s books from being a collector from the 80’s on is that many of these 90’s books have been in and out of quarter bins for years. Many of them are roached. Yes. There may be huge print runs but you have to take in account 20 years of abuse.
