I talk on and off with a lot of comic speculators, I always keep my email open for people to ask questions or make suggestions. Adam is a comic dealer I know out of the New York / New Jersey area who I have been talking to for a while now. I asked him for his top 20 back issue specs and here is what he sent me:
Hello it’s your boy, Blind Adam. I wanted to give something back to all of my awesome family on Comics Heating Up. Tony thank you for everything. Thank you to everyone for helping a blind man’s dream come true now, lets sit back and enjoy an awesome random spec plays.
1 New Avengers Annual #1– wedding of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. Jessica and Luke both have Netflix shows. Jessica will have a season two. Luke is getting season own and the baby was referenced in season one of Jessica Jones. So this issue should be on everyone’s radar.
2 The Defenders #89– origin of Hellcat- Trish Walker was my favorite part of Jessica Jones on Netflix. This is the origin of Hellcat.
3 Batman the Collected Adventures vol.#2– reprints Batman Adventures #12.
4.TRUE BELIEVERS: DEADPOOL #1– reprints New Mutants #98 $1, drops in January. It will be snatched like a date to the high school prom so drop the bomb and snag the cheapest way to own Deadpool’s first appearance. This is a hot back issue before it is even released.
5 Wolverine Origin #25– another cheap reprint of new mutants #98 $5-10
6 Nintendo Power Magazine #6. First artwork by J. Scott Campbell. J. Scott Campbell’s art is awesome. His Spider-man stuff goes for mad money this is his first artwork ever.
7 Homage Studios Swimsuit Special 1993– very early J. Scott Campbell artwork pre-dates his Gen 13 work
8 JSA #23– 1st modern age Hawkman. Legends of Tomorrow will feature Hawkman and the comic source material is the Geoff Jones Hawkman witch makes his debut in this issue.
9 Superman Adventures #5
Issue 5 has a low print, I believe that Livewire will be a cos-play favorite like Harley Quinn and Spider-Gwen so these appearances will be key in years to come Harley Quinn is. Plus, she just appeared on Supergirl the TV show.
10 Marvel Age #10 Star Wars cover- Two words “December 18th” Star Wars movie, cheap cover appearance
11 Krampus 1 shot- this pre-dates the current series. New hot series and the what will be the best Christmas movie of all time find this one shot and enjoy it or sell it
12 Ren and Stimpy #6– Dan Slot’s 1st Spider-man story ever. Why is this classic Spider-man vs Powdered Toast Man story by Dan Slot not a $10-25 book? Dan is the best Spider-man writer of the 2000’s and this is his first work
13 Spidey Super Stories #39– $40-60 why can’t we make this a easy Benjamin? Spidey fights Thanos? And a Thanos copter what more do you want
14 Batman No Mans Gallery– Harley Quinn pin up and it is under $20 same with Batman Chronicles Gallery
15 Amazing Spider-man #31– Silver age. 1st Gwen Stacey. With Spider-Gwen and Gwen-pool running modern back issue sales . all the new kids should grab low grade reader copies of this series and make the money. I believe this issue was reprinted in Marvel Tales #171 or 172 and that is a easy flip kids
16 Action Comics #252– reprints silver age classics. The reprint will make you $20 bills, plus I love the CBS show
17 Adventures of Superman #424– 1st Cat Grant is the best on the Supergirl TV show to watch and this is her first appearance
18 Raphael 1– shot second print or first print, 1st Casey Jones, new movie staring Steven Amell both prints are on fire
19 Batman #121 Toys R US reprint– hell toss in the Detective Comics 359 Toys R Us reprint as well. 1st Babs Gordon Batgirl. Throw in ties to the Suicide Squad and Killing Joke movies. Plus Mr Freeze will be on Gotham. These reprints came out in 1997 during the Batman & Robin movie (don’t player hate it OK?)
20 Marvel Star Wars Whitman reprint three packs. In the late 70’s Marvel packaged three comics together for mass market sale. You can find these mint sealed 3 packs on eBay of Star Wars #1-3. My flip idea is buy this pack for around $30-50 open the pack and grade me. They should come back 9.6-9.8’s and bam pow zang crisp $100 bills baby
(bonus book)
21 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Magazine Winter 1992– Not sure of the issue number but it is winter 1992 on the cover. Not sure of the spec play or flip money making of this issue. But it is a TMNT Garfield the cat cross over. Maybe Garfield tries a slice of pizza and gets of the damn coach and gets his boy Odie a date with a hot blond. Garfield is nothing but a mean fat bully to that cute little dog and it is ticking me off something awful
You Can find Blind Adam on Youtube, search for blind Adam or Adam Anthony. Or catch him in Midtown Comics every Wednesday.
Number 3 is so under appreciated its crazy, ive been telling people for a while about it, but people seem to toss it aside
Number 4, the first print of new mutants 98 had an estimated print run of over 500k copies, which means the current prices are based on bubble hype, and if this print is going for $1, and ebay presales have people buying 50 of these at a time, we might be looking at another almost 500k print run, the only ones that will stand out are the ones signed by the creators, with an original sketch on the cover in a 9.8 CGC/CBCS grade
im tryiing to remember if I ever seen mr Adam.
Dark Hair, thin, big dark glasses. I have run into him a few times at NYCC.

Younger. Also blind. Not sure how many blind guys are at Midtown but that’s a big giveaway as to who he is.

Great list, I definitely have missed a few of these and will be adding them to the PC. The origin of Patsy flew right over my heqd, as did SS Stories! I don’t really know how under the radar first Gwen/Harry Osborn, first SG/Metallo, and first Casey Jones are though. I’ve had all three for sale at cons 91st various times and they never have lasted past the first hour. They’re all getting up there in age, and are pretty darn scarce in the market today. Silver Spidey tends to be the most sought after stuff here at cons, and the only turtles collectors look for, besides City at War, is 1-6, and the micro-series.
I have been picking up the IDW Turtles lately for collecting purposes but have scooped up a ton of Original Turtle stuff over the years. The City at War stuff is always a good seller and worth picking up.
Adam Legend Of The Blue Marvel #1 has been getting between $20-$40 raw on ebay in the last 2 weeks.
With the success of Jessica Jones, maybe some other Marvel Max series are worth a look?
Cage, Foolkiller, Superme Power Nighthawk, Dead Of Night with Devil Slayer, The Eternal…
I wonder about Cage Max by Azzarello and Corben depending on which way they go with the show.
