I got messaged by a retailer last week asking me if I knew what was going on with Double Take books. Asked if I had heard any rumors. They said that Double Take books are showing as canceled
.
According to Diamonds ordering system, all Double Take books are showing as canceled for issue four. No explanation was given by Diamond, but issue 3 is the issues that could be ordered. We reached out to Double Take for comment but they have not responded.
Of course there could be numerous reasons for this, including the line could be rebooted, or they will be resolicited at a later time, but to see the full line of books canceled was rather odd.
Z-Men had been recently optioned for a movie, so it is really strange to see the book, as well as the other 9 books in the Double Take line be canceled on Diamond’s ordering system.
Wow … maybe tried doing too much too soon. Reboot and focus on just one or two angles
“Media Hype” was the only thing the company’s marketing dept. could think of to sell these books. Not surprised that the books are cancelled.
I actually enjoyed them. There was no spec to them at first and even when the movie announcement was made it didn’t really effect the price of the books. The only down side to the books was the art was inconsistent within the issues themselves (too many artists on one issue) and if you read the whole line you would see pages from other books (the continuity portion for those not reading them all). But I did like their business model of cheaper prices and buying the books in sets of 10 for even less.
But if you weren’t interested in NOTLD, the entire line of ten comics had nothing to offer. I’m not at all surprised that trying to launch an entire publishing line on just one spin-off from one movie, in a genre that’s already stale, has proven unsuccessful.
I am a huge fan of the original Night of the Living Dead and that is what drew me to the books. They were doing more with it than just zombies. They were moving it into a superhero line. For example Barbara’s brother was bitten but didn’t turn. There was an invisible girl running through all of issue two’s
It was too much at once for me. I wished they would have spaced the books out more. Having every single book in their lineup release on the same day was a bit too much for me. I didn’t want to read just one of the stories out of fear it would be incomplete. They should relaunch but focus on a couple of books instead of trying to maintain 10.
I had pre-ordered all of these up to issue #4. You know what that means…..refund more $$ for my next group of pre-orders.
