Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 1/27/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 1/27/16:
The Returning Favorites
Chew #54– One of the best funny books on the market is ticking down to the end of the run. Sad, but glad I have been there for the entire ride.
Deadly Class #18– Rick Remender is one of the best writers in comics today, with the fact he is focusing on creator owned projects now makes me happy.
The Good Reader Picks
Beauty #6– With each new issue this is growing as a bigger and bigger favorite. It is already a book I recommend and try to get new readers on.
Black Magick #4– Another book I am stoked about. Really good art and story telling. Worth picking up and reading.
The One With A Kick
Cyberines #1– This all new super-hero book from Red Anvil started out as a Kickstarter book. This one will be hard to find. The Kickstarter was successfully funded, raising $3000, with a $550 goal. Not bad. You can check out the original Kickstarter here
The Slow Burner
Monstress #3– Here is the rub. No variants, no incentives, no gimmicks. A book that is heating up based solely on the quality of the art work and story. This is a book that people are taking notice of and talking about.
The New Image #1
Cry Havoc #1– Si Spurrior’s new book. This is not the tale of a lesbian werewolf who goes to war. Except it kind of is.
Small Press Gem
Victorie City #1-Described as an all-new four-issue series in the vein of Se7en, writer Keith Carmack and artist Vincent Nappi mix thriller, mystery, and noir elements with a touch of horror in Victorie City. Did someone say Se7en? I am in.
Small Press Pick of the Week
Strayer #1– Justin Jordan’s new book. Justin is a fan favorite writer here. The preview for Strayer was really good. Worth checking out. Plus, Aftershock has had low print run books.
Pick of the Week
Faith #1– Yes it is a mini series. Yes it is valiant. So what is the draw on this book? Simple. Plus sized superhero Zephyr gets her own mini series.A href=”http://www.mycomicshop.com/search?q=faith+1&pubid=&PubRng=&AffID=1003187P01″>Cover C is a CGC replica cover which is already selling out on-line. I am grabbing a copy and slabbing it through CBCS for the irony.
Big List. Big Week. Sad Wallet. Let us know what you are spec-ing on.

  1. Don’t forget, Monstress #1 3rd print hits stands tomorrow along with #2 2nd print.. nowadays, you know it’s something special if any Image issue goes to 2nd or 3rd prints..

    1. I really hated the art in Victorie City. If it was anything longer than a 4 part mini series i’d probably drop it. It was hard to even tell what was going on in some of the panels. Decent story but it was hard to look at it.
