Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 3/16/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we feel have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 3/16/16:
Returning Favorites
Devolution #3 Rick Remender is killing it with this post apocalyptic tale.Sold out at both TFAW and Mycomicshop.
Kodoja #4– I have been loving this books so far. Art is quirky but the story has been really good. What happens when the government creates a giant monster robot, and it goes rogue.
Monstress #4– I cannot tell you how good this book is. You need to read it. Also look for the 2nd printing of #1 with it’s tiny 3,000 copy print run.
Poison Ivy Circle of Life and Death #3– Art work is incredible. So damn good. The story is equally as impressive.
Project Nemesis #4– There has been a little bit of a wait on the latest issue of this little girl turns into a Kaiju story from AGP, but worth the wait.
Small Press Gem
3 Devils #1– Fans of Sixth Gun should enjoy this one. 3 Devils, from writer/artist Bo Hampton, is a high-action, supernatural western that centers around a pact of vengeance sworn by a tragically orphaned Gypsy girl, an ex-slave with no soul, and a carnival freak billed as the Human Wolf. Gaining strength and courage from each other, they set off across the Old West-in search of the three hideous, inhuman entities that caused their torment and haunt their lives
Small Press Pick of the Week
Turncoat #1– Paul Pope/ Heavy Metal style art and a cyberpunk storyline should bring in the Blade Runner Fans. 300 years since humanity was brutally subjugated by the alien race known simply as the Management. Two years since these invaders abandoned Earth to return to their home world. Following her participation in the brutal massacre of human-alien hybrids left behind by the Management, resistance fighter Marta Gonzalez declines to join the new human government and starts her own private detective agency instead. Gonzalez is forced to confront her own bloody past and acknowledge the fact that the transition from oppression to emancipation is anything but clean.
One for the Valiant Fans
A&A #1– Archer and Armstrong return and I hope the story takes some of the tone from the recently released bootleg, that thing had me cracking up. Also, grab the CGC Variant, they have been doing nicely on ebay (Saw a PGX 9.8 Graded Faith #1, it cracked me up)
The Quick Flip
Extraordinary X-Men #8– Get two, sell one quickly. If prices go down, you have a cool Deadpool as a Horseman of the Apocalypse First Appearance. If it goes up, money. I am partial to the “Story Thus Far” Variant

Pick of the Week

Steven Universe & the Crystal Gems #1– If you didn’t know Steven Universe has a cult of loyal followers, just check out the prices on the previous series. This one is not to be missed. (Of course I have to say past performance does not guarantee future returns, but I am taking the chance.)
One for the Bookshelf
Beauty Vol. 1– A $9.99 Image TPB featuring one of the best stories I have read in a while. Cannot wait for the book to pick back up.
and
Bloody Mary TPB-Gart Ennis’ old Helix series gets collected in TPB form. IN 1999, WE ALL WENT BACK TO WAR. In a world only slightly worse than our own, a third great European conflict has dragged the major powers into a lethal war of attrition. Now, Mary Malone, the most dangerous assassin in a land of killers, must face both a man who cannot die and a crazed cult leader whose flock are all too ready to die for him.
That is it for us this week, let us know what you are spec-ing on.

    1. I think the 3rd print was just as small or smaller, didn’t see nearly as many available when it came out back in January.

  1. I read the first issue of, “Devolution” and really just wasn’t feeling it. Should I pick-up the 2nd and newly released 3rd to see if maybe it is in fact something I enjoy and the first issue doldrums I had were just a fluke?

    1. Honestly, I’d say just pick up #2 and wait on 3. Most of the time if I read a comic and get the feeling you had with the 1st issue, I don’t look back. I loved Devolution though so I’m picking them up. I will say, issue 2 got a little more twisted…
