Thanks to DrunkWookie for this one:
Through anecdotal evidence from a couple local comic shops, I have heard that X-O sales have been flagging. I’ll disclose my bias up front here: I love Valiant! Anybody who is getting sick and tired of the “Big Two” and what they keep doing to pump up sales should give Valiant a look. Are Marvel’s events too frequent, long, expensive, and pervasive? Check out Valiant’s 4-issue events like The Valiant, Book of Death, and the upcoming 4001 A.D. Is D.C.’s writing getting you down? Check out Valiant’s respect and care for their characters in their writing. Anyway, enough soapboxing…
In May, Valiant will begin really pushing X-O Manowar as they begin the countdown to the final issue, #50. Valiant has become known for their marketing tactics. With Wrath of the Eternal Warrior, they sent out actual battle axes to comic shops. With 4001 A.D. this summer, they are sending a time-locked capsule set to unlock at the end of the summer event.
Well, now Valiant has set it’s marketing department’s eyes on their long-running X-O Manowar series. Each copy of X-O Manowar starting with issue #47 will be polybagged and shipped with 1 of 50 special edition prints. Above-and beyond that, there is a chance to receive a randomly inserted piece of original art! Valiant’s recent Valiant X CGC covers (starting with Faith #1) have been a real crack up.
‘In celebration of X-O Manowar’s landmark issue #50 finale, Valiant is proud to reveal the X-O MANOWAR #50 COUNTDOWN GIVEAWAY – also beginning in June’s X-O MANOWAR #47! For no extra cost, each issue of “LONG LIVE THE KING” will come bagged with one of 50 exclusive, 4-by-6 inch “micro-prints” featuring the one and only X-O Manowar as realized by a sensational cast of comics’ biggest talents – or full-blown, beautifully rendered original artwork randomly inserted in each issue! The X-O MANOWAR #50 COUNTDOWN GIVEAWAY will continue all summer long across all issues of “LONG LIVE THE KING” – including the oversized, blockbuster issue #50 finale!’
People have been CBCSing and PGXing them, which Tony and I find just hilarious!
So, why not pick up a couple copies of X-O Manowar’s #47 CGC cover and take a stab at receiving some sweet original art!?!

XO Manowar is one of my favorite reads each month.
I hear ya, been beating valiants drum for awhile. They are the best alternative to big two.
Please bring on the good Valiant movies after having to sit 2.5 hours through this turd donkey of a DC movie tonight.
Never been a big fan of valiant art, its been getting better tho…very slowly!
Valiant has consistently issued solid art and top-tier story telling. I never grew up reading DC as a kid, but I loved Marvel. Sadly, Marvel has become too gimmicky with variants and sacrificed story and art. Don’t get me wrong, there is the occasional beautiful Dell’Otto, Granov, or Deodato work. But, overall, Marvel’s output has been a general let down.
Valiant’s relaunch has been nothing short of exceptional with only occasional duds like Dead Drop. These final X-O issues will be fun with the chance for original art, but if you haven’t read any VEI books, pick up a TPB. You’ll be won over.
