Boxing legend Muhammad Ali passed away this evening at the age of 74.
(Please not this is not a spec piece, but a comic tribute to Muhammad Ali)
Besides being a boxing legend for many years, Muhammad Ali has a pretty long history in comics. His first appearance in comic form was in Cracked Magazine #35
cracked #35
He would make 4 additional appearances in the magazine. Like Mad, which he also appeared in 6 times, Cracked lampooned pop culture. He would also appear in Crazy Magazine 7 times. He is even a part of the Watchmen lore with a brief appearance in Before Watchmen Comedian #2.
His most famous appearance was when he squared off with Superman in Superman vs Muhammad Ali, a long time treasury sized classic comic.
His strangest appearance had to be in Herbie Comics from American Comics Group. All in all Ali appeared in comics about 50 times.

Muhammad Ali is a legend that we may never seen any one on par again.

  1. Ali was one of the few boxers that inspired me to box back in high school. Watched couple of his fights a few months back not knowing this would happen. He will be missed. R.I.P champ.

    1. He trained for a while in PA, if I remember the story correctly, my father in law has some photos he took of Ali back in the 70’s and they are awesome. He really was the greatest.

  2. Sadly when I saw he went to the hospital the other day with respiratory issues, I had a feeling we would get this type of news.. 🙁

  3. One of the upcoming Harley’s little black book issues was going to put Harley vs Superman in a boxing match similar to the Ali vs Superman issue. Not a spec, just mentioning it. Strange how these things come to pass sometimes.
I never saw him fight other than rebroadcast bouts, but there was no doubt to his ability and showmanship.
