Poyo's Picks for April 12th, 2017

Welcome back people, to read all the picks that Poyo tells you that you should pick up, read, maybe flip, hug.. whatever it is you do with your comics.. anything could happen. Last week we had a sleeper hit in the X-Men Gold #1 , not due to any new characters or story but the controversy behind the hidden messages within the art.
So what’s it gonna be this week? I’ll tell you what I’m picking.. probably wrong on half or all of it, but that’s not gonna stop me from picking them.
Let’s get on with the picks shall we?
DC/Vertigo
Flash #20 (DC) – This is probably my favorite DC title currently. Williamson is nailing this series. Is there a new villain in the upcoming book? There’s a traitor within Flash’s inner circle. This should be good..
Marvel Pick

Old Man Logan #21 (Marvel) – Love this regular cover, the whole series of upcoming books looks awesome. Logan lives through his past.. since the beginning. Looking forward to this to relive some of the classic stories of Wolverine.
Small Publisher Pick
Seven To Eternity #5 Silver Foil Variant (Image) – If you can find them cheap, this is the one to get. It’s already selling well on pre-orders on the secondary market. Plus it helps that the series is hot as well. You can’t go wrong with Remender. These are 1:25 but that’s only if the shops who ordered 25 copies order these as well, so expect these to be hard to find. Smaller shops likely won’t order 25 copies of this while even larger shops who ordered 25 or more copies might not have even bothered to order these.
Indie Pick
I got two this week. Everyone should be aware of these as well.. CHU is a fan favorite for one and the other has just been hot since it’s hit the shelves with issue 1.
Solar Flare #1 (Scout Comics) – We all saw this one coming. Definitely worth checking out. It’s Scout Comics so expect small print runs on this one.
Heathen #3 (Vault Comics) – This is already sold out online. Try and find the variant as well. #2 was hard to find and almost non-existent. I expect the same of #3. My own local shop wasn’t even ordering from Vault Comics until I brought it up with them. So hopefully they start getting some of these titles in.
Tell us what your spec’ing on. Tell me you hate my picks. Tell us what you think of the X-Men Gold controversy.. let’s talk comics people!

  1. Can someone clarify which heathen 3 cover is the variant? It has changed on Midtown and both are listed currently on EBay as variant.

    1. Midtown has them listed right now. Seems they had the variant as the Tess Fowler cover but that was not her style….

      1. Didn’t know about it, just read it on a news site. Man I hope that guy gets his head cut off by ISIS

      2. I was busy at work all day today and my McLeod 1:25 XMen Gold #1 sold around 1pm for $24 shipped. It wasn’t getting any love all week. It had 5 watchers when it sold today. Missed the boat on that one. Damn.

        1. Seems the heat is sizzling…. And it was the regular cover that was selling well. I think it will certainly cool off fast though, most of the heat was just people buying due to the controversy.

          1. I knew it wouldn’t last. Anytime a book gets that kinda real world media attention it sells. I experienced the same influx this past summer with the Civil War II Choosing Sides #5 Justin Trudeau variant. It was on the need in Canada on Wednesday night. I sold 50 copies of that book at 4-5x cover in a week. I have 1 copy left that hadst sold since then. Lol

    1. Yeah, they use the covers listed in previews and then start updating as they likely get them.

      1. Yeah, basically you tell your LCS about CHU or other spec sites.. it may backfire on you and then you find yourself at your local shop on release day paying secondary market prices cause your shop is now tuning into the spec market.. 😉

      1. I use to love Wizard magazines long ago.. loved checking on how much my comics were worth.. those and Beckett to check my sports cards.. 🙂

        1. Yup. Me too. I used to check off all the books in the back of Wizard that I had and tracked the growth from month to month
