Rick Remender already has a hit on his hands with Black Science. The first issue sold well with a print run of 40,800 copies. It was a thing earlier in the year and last year that new Image #1’s would be hot. With this one, it is #2.
I was alerted about this via message board chatter and then a follow up story took place in Bleeding Cool. I am on Holiday break and cannot get to the old lap top as fast as I would like. None the less, Black Science #2 has sold for as high as $26, but sales have been steady in the $12-$19 range. If you check the recently closed auctions, you will see the prices are fairly steady above $10. You can still find copies of Black Science #2 on eBay at opening bids of $3 and on Amazon starting at $9.99
Rumor Has it that stores were shorted on the second issue. This could be a “burn and turn” idea where you sell copies you can find quickly at the current market floor. Most online retailers are out, but I have seen many shops that still have copies on the shelf.
My LCBS didn’t even have Cover B. I just snagged two BIN copies at about $15 each just in case these keep on the continued rise. I already have 3 x Cover A copies. 🙂
I checked out 2 LCS and both were sold out of cover A & B. But interestingly, they still had #1 @ cover price. Guy @ 1 store said they got in less than they ordered and they quickly sold out.
Number 1 fess heavily ordered because it was returnable based on their order size. Many retailers took advantage of this and ordered more of number one based on this fact. Number two was not returnable so you had a normal decline in order size plus a drop off due to not being returnable. I think more people read it and realized it was good and went back for the second issue, and found that places were sold out.
Plus there did seem to be some allocation of copies as the retailer said.
One store in my area had just the phantom variants for #1 and only cover A for #2, which they probably had 2 dozen left of those. Another store only had Cover A #1 left in stock and no #2 available.
Was it a phantom or a ghost variant. Not sure there was a phantom on it.

Retail price, $3.50.
I will have to look and see what it looks like. I buy a lot of the phantoms, but have only been able to secure a couple of the ghosts at reasonable prices around here. One was a straight trade.
