Image Comics is printing 1,992 blind boxes in commemoration of the company’s founding year in 1992. The IMAGE COMICS 25th ANNIVERSARY BLIND BOX will be available in comic stores on Wednesday, July 19th.
How do you celebrate your 25th Anniversary without any variants for Walking Dead, Saga, Seven to Eternity, Spawn, Chew, Deadly Class, Spread, etc?
That’s like Marvel doing a box and not including any variants for Spider-Man, Wolverine or Star Wars. It’s like DC doing a box and not including any variants for Batman, Harley Quinn or Superman.
No wonder Image waited until after FOC to release the titles. Imagine if they told you they were celebrating their 25th Anniversary without Walking Dead/Spawn/S2E/Saga. Absolutely mind blowing!
Talk about a total screw up, the Negan would be considered a TWD comic I suppose? But even then it seems like a total sham as they said it would not be reprinted in comic format or something like that. And later announced they’ll be collecting them together so bleh.
Plus there are tons of damages being reported along with multiple doubles in boxes. I watched a live unboxing and saw 3 basic color Rock Candy Mountain variants in the same box. Ouch!
i guess the people who packed them were blind also
If there are 1992 boxes, how can something be 1:2043? Are you sure these odds aren’t how frequently they show up per total number of comics?
I thought the same thing but withheld comment until someone else said it
25 sketches covers equals 425 total sketches inserted into boxes.
25 comics per box tmes 1992 boxes equals 49800 total comics.
So that explanation doesn’t make sense either.
Regardless, 425 sketches in 1992 boxes means the actual odds are better than 1:5 of getting a sketch.
But now I’m wondering what the actual odds are on the other variants.
This is straight from Image.
It breaks down to 1 out of 80 boxes for a rare sketch.
The 1:2043 is based on all 49,800 books in the 1,992 boxes. They used ratios based on total comics and not the ratios per box.
There are only 25 hand drawn sketches in total. The other sketches are just printed sketch covers. A hand drawn The Few #1 has been found. So only 24 sketches left.
The hand drawn are the 1:2043 (or 1 out of 80 boxes).
Thanks for the clarification Brian.
Your math is spot on, but the article says “25 copies per series of the 17 selected launches” That sure makes it sound like 425 total sketches, not 25 total sketches.
Joe G… there are 2 different types of sketches. There are 25 hand drawn sketches (the rare 1:2043, or 1 in 80 boxes) and there are the b/w sketch covers that are printed and much easier to find.
There are multiples of the printed b/w “sketch” covers, but only 25 total, unique, hand drawn sketch covers.
I know of 1 being found for sure so far.
Weigh the boxes. The heavier ones will have blank covers and sketches.
So I have one of these waiting for me tomorrow. My excitement was way high before I read this now I’m quite bummed out. This is super disappointing, especially since even with the not so great selection you can also get doubles. What a clusterf***.
Make sure the seal hasnt been broken. I have seen a few where either diamond or image went through the boxes and picked out the good stuff and put crap in the other. Then they would just re shrinkwrap the box. Such a joke.
This is wrong. Some people are opening boxes and getting 3 or 4 sketches with the negan comic and some are getting nothing but regular color copies. I have noticied where some of the boxes were gone through before the retailer even got them. This is a joke and needs to be rectified. How is it the ebay haf graded copies of negan before the box even came out. Most of us had no shot of getting anything but regular covers. YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS RIGHT!!!!
I totally missed this as was at SDCC… pro’s and cons… Question. How much were these at release? My local store is asking $400 now.
thanks
The store paid $125. That was cost. From there they were $250 and up.
