The 149th edition of the open forum!
Well, not a bad week last week if you were able to grab and flip Totally Awesome Hulk #22. I have been doing very well with these Weapons of Mutant Destruction books. We have another one this week with Weapon X #7
As always we also want to hear about your weekly pickups.

  1. Nothing big tomorrow just doing a lot of catch up. This is what I will try and get.

    Weapon X #7 ( hopefully they don’t sell out). There are couple of LCS that I have noticed that will increase the price on a book even when it’s on the release date. Hopefully this won’t be the case with the whole commotion of Hulk 22.

    1. I think if shops increase their prices on hot books on release day, that gives the consumer the right to clean them out. Once they raise the price, you can’t limit the number of copies.

  2. I’m not looking for much tomorrow if anything. I’ll go by a shop or two if I have time. I have made some good progress in my organizing the last couple of week’s.

  3. Probably just catching up on my reading, I have 6 issues of Thanos and a few of Redneck sitting in the stack.
    Over the weekend I scooped up a couple more sets of HAPPY! including 1 copy of the variant of issue #2 (a real bitch to find).
    Also found 3 more high grade copies of Nemesis #1, between the regular cover and DF variants my stash is at 10 copies. Great one to sit on for the long haul as I’m sure Nemesis will get a Netflix series.
    I noticed that out of nowhere copies of The Sentry #1 (1st series) have been vanishing from ebay. I don’t know if movie news leaked to a few people or that collectors are figuring out what a great series it is, either way, grab #1 and the SDCC variant cheap if you can

    1. Redneck is always one of the first ones I read. Donnys writing is epic. I can see it as a Netflix series.

    1. Also got myself a Guardians of the Galaxy #1 blank variant with original artwork from Scottie Young CGC SS 9.8.
      One for the personal collection as I am a fan of young’s artwork!

  18. Today’s purchases included Redneck, Black Hammer, Renato Jones and Edge of Venomverse (Ron Lim Variant… I’m a sucker out on the Lim … get it? See what I did there? … sorry, been a long day). Some things e-purchased awhile ago and recently arrived… Edge of Venomverse #1 Mattina Ultimate (#60 out of 250), House of Secrets 92 signed by Wrightson (front cover; looks to be within F to F+ range), Swamp Thing 1 (1972; looks to be in the VF+ / NM range) and Doctor Strange 1 (1974) signed by Brunner (front page; looks to be in the Fine+ to VF range)… looks like I’l be sending these off to be pressed and graded shortly 😉
    Also, I have to give a HUGE shout-out to Sad Lemon Comics. I had ordered the Torque variant set for Babyteeth #3 (Omen Homage) awhile back and these just arrived today… sadly the package arrived pretty banged up and the comics were damaged. This is the first time this has ever happened to me when buying from Sad Lemon Comics and having parcels sent to New Brunswick, Canada. I reached out to them with pics and within minutes I received a reply that a new set was on its way… AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Thank you so much Sad Lemon Comics and keep up the GREAT work!!

      1. Wasn’t this advertised before its release as already optioned for film. Pretty sure it was Thats why I preordered it and own it if I remember.

    2. I’m curious on how this one plays out as well, since it’s not in current comic size but more magazine size. I know some are put off and don’t consider it a “comic”.

      1. No real heat yet either so far, from what I can tell. Seems you can still get these for dirt cheap. Even the Midtown signed copies are still pretty reasonably priced.

  23. No new comics for me today. I did have every cover for Z Nation pre-ordered. I also have both covers of Rick and Morty in my pullbox along with Howling #2.

  24. Seems Nightwing Variant B is the one this week….
    I listed three titles on eBay yesterday evening, Nightwing Variant B, Weapon X and Manhunter.
    Nightwing has more watchers than the rest combined.

    1. You are in the U.K., right, Karl? When you sell on eBay, Where are most of your customers located?

      1. For flips it’s all UK based.
        I’ve had a couple of questions sent about my more expensive items from America and Canada.
        Bear in mind though that I’m very new to this so don’t haven’t being selling for that long.

    2. Sometimes watchers doesn’t equate to bidders though. I watch a lot of comics to see how well they’re selling cause I have one to sell myself. 🙂

    1. That Mattina cover for Batman is great (although I over bought this, got about 10 copies online by mistake… accidentally doubled my pre order… and grabbed a few in store prior to realising).
      I posted the ones I got yesterday but today went into my two LCS’s this afternoon (Wednesday I go to forbidden planet megastore as they always have a lot of stock if you get there in the morning AND they don’t mind selling multiple copies….)
      Picked up one copy of The Hard Place #1 Stelfreeze variant in each store.
      Also found 1 copy of Donald and Mickey variant cover (Terry spec’d this quite hard as would be very rare so hopefully he’s right and it’s a nice earner at some point).
      Also got every variant cover for Generations Thor bar the Ross one.

  26. Well wont order from unknown comics again. I ordered a image blindbox back in feb. When the blindbox was released ive been getting nothing but the run around for over a month. They were at sdcc so i gave em some leeway to get my order out. They say next mon, next monday comes no nothing. Called about 8 diff times have been getting run around since. Guy who answers says owner is handling the blindbox everytime i call. The owner is never around and guy on phone says theyll go out in day or two ,and other times owner will contact me. So i left my name and # about a week ago , no response from the guy. I just called to say i dont even want it anymore its ridiculous.
    Please stop promoting these places. Comicxposure n unknown comics have stolen my $ from blindboxes. They lost me as a customer for sure

    1. That stinks. I ordered the Marvel lenticular cover set this morning from Unknown Comics after hearing about their promo here. I hope I get better treatment than you’ve received…this is my first order from them. I won’t be happy if it doesn’t go well, especially after seeing some positive reviews elsewhere. Fingers crossed…

      1. I ordered the astonishing xmen 1 Dodson cover from unknown comics, it shipped 2 weeks after the release date. The books came in great shape. But yeah their shipping dept is lackluster.

      1. Wait what? I’ve ordered shipping supplies before.. one does not need to go get shipping supplies if you are shipping mass quantities of goods, you order them. It’s called ULine, they do overnight shipping too.

          1. Yeah but this is a legit comic shop, telling customers “the owner is out buying more shipping supplies” as their excuse for shipping days is absurd.

    3. I’ve hundreds of dollars in orders with them, they can ship slow. For instance I just received my Venomverse #1 variants last week which was my first order and have received numerous orders placed after it before it. Sometimes they ship fast like with the SDCC variants. I suggest using messenger on Facebook to contact them, I think you will get the owner that way. They have always been quick to respond there. Also if you paired it with something else in your order that has yet to be released it might be on hold because of that.

      1. I’ve been finding a lot of the places offering store exclusives don’t have the Man power to keep up with their shipping. I’ve sold 500 items on eBay in the same day and I know how daunting of a task it is to get that all packed and shipped in 2 days but I get it done. If your getting 50+ orders a day you probably should have a full time shipping employee to handle shipping and inquiries.

      2. That is one thing that many people do. It understand, when the preorder from a shop, and the stuff the order together has different release dates, and you only pay for shipping once, all the stuff you order ships with the last ordered book.

    4. The excuse i had gotten today when i asked whats up with it was , the owner went to a chicago con and hes the only one that was handling the image blindbox, so i said refund my paypal, the guy said i’ll let the owner know so imagine more delays with that.
      I already called my bank n paypal to get my $ back because i dont wanna have to wait even longer for a refund

      1. Sucks that you preordered and looks like they either sold it out from under you or sold more than they were allocated. At least be up front with you about it and offer a discount on your next purchase or something sheesh. Sad when eBay sellers treat you better than a store.

    5. I had ordered from Unknown comics recently and shipping has taken a while. They recently sent out an email saying that were in the process of moving stores shortly after SDCC. Also mentioned they only have 2 people officially working on shipping online orders. Not sure this makes a difference for you or not. Either way, sorry it hasn’t worked out for you.

      1. Its a bummer, Yeah i got the email too, but a week after it was released they said they shipped half of the blindboxes out , they i said i was 1 of 5 to still be shipped. 3 plus weeks n still not shipped,def felt shady

    6. Ordered their 10-pack for Metal which included their Kirkham covers. Apparently those books arrived with damaged covers, so they are supposedly getting a new batch made up (from DC). We’ll see how this turns out.

  27. I went to the post office today, and they told me I can ship comics via media mail. So instead of $40 to ship my next PGX submission it cost me $5.08 to ship a box half my size. Media mail to Hawaii tales 6-8 weeks it stacks up in Cali before there’s enough to send a plane, from Hawaii it gets shipped the same as priority because all our mail travels by plane.

    1. Your lucky to ship via media mail. Some post offices here don’t let you ship comic books as media cuz they are not consider books. I have argued so many times with post office people that I tell them now it’s just a plain kids book with cardboard to protect it LOL.

      1. I use media mail all the time when I do free shipping to cut costs. Comic books fall under the first rule, Books (at least 8 pages).
        Media Mail rules per their website:
        Media Mail® service has special eligibility requirements for permissible contents. Media Mail rates are limited to the items listed below:
        Books (at least 8 pages).
        Sound recordings and video recordings, such as CDs and DVDs.
        Playscripts and manuscripts for books, periodicals, and music.
        Printed music.
        Computer-readable media containing prerecorded information and guides or scripts prepared solely for use with such media.
        Sixteen millimeter or narrower width films.
        Printed objective test materials and their accessories.
        Printed educational reference charts.
        Loose-leaf pages and their binders consisting of medical information for distribution to doctors, hospitals, medical schools, and medical students.
        Media Mail Packages may not contain advertising except that books may contain incidental announcements of other books and sound recordings may contain incidental announcements of other sound recordings.
        So the only rule I think would knock them out of media mail class is Marvel and DC books that do more advertising outside of advertising their own books, the last paragraph.
        I have never heard of anyone’s comic packages being sent via media mail being upgraded to a different class rate. Unless it’s a large box that seems suspicious that isn’t fully media they are sending, that’s the only time I would imagine they ding people.

      3. I had a couple packages that were being sent to me where the seller used media mail and they checked the package and sent it back to the seller. 2 out of many.

    1. I don’t see why they would cancel it. I saw the story that they are doing Harley and Joker potentially as the next movie. Just don’t see why the would cancel it instead.

      1. I think now that Whedon is over there he’s going to build the DCEU as he sees fit. With Harley already being kinda heroish it doesn’t make much sense to do the same with other female Batman villains right away. Ivy should be introduced as a villain of a film maybe batgirl, cat woman should be introduced as villainish in a supporting role in a Batman movie. Then cat woman should go on to a standalone film, yes I said that. They need to erase the bad feline flick of the past. Then after these films and Joker and Harley it would make sense to do Gotham city Sirens. So not cancelled yet but I imagine pushed back until it would make more sense.

    How are you guys feeling about The Button hard’n lenticular cover?
    Im kinda new, but the first run being lenticular, and that second printing is pretty likely, right?
    Would you buy an extra copy? Do graphics novels like that have much of an aftermarket?

    1. The hardcover? That’s tough. It will likely stay in print forever. Only graphic novels that go out of print tend to be desirable.
