Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 1/24/18:
Very light week this week for specs. But there are always ones that creep up on you.
Returning Favorites
Doomsday Clock #3 – Awesome story which is bringing the Watchmen into the DCU proper. Has been full of spoilers and fanboy nods.
Imaginary Fiends #3 – This horror themed book has been really good. Imaginary friends are bad. Feeding off imagination.
Redneck #9 – One of the books that put Donny Cates on the map. Awesome vampire story.
Southern Bastards #19 – It has been a while between issues but I am still loving this Jason Aaron book.
Backways #2 – Justin Jordan’s new series. The first issue was really good and I am going back for more.
Jughead The Hunger #3 – And they said Archie couldn’t put out an “on-time” horror book. This has been really good. Jughead as a werewolf. I hope they bring some of these elements in to the Riverdale show.
The One for the Cover
Legion #1 Bill Sienkiewicz Variant – I do love Bill’s classic style, this is more of a nod to how he used to do covers.
Small Press Gem
Abbott #1 – This new boom series actually looks pretty interesting. Chain smoking tabloid writer chasing the supernatural. Boom has a first look deal in place to get comics optioned. This could be one of them.
The Ones to Watch
Justice League of America #23 Doug Mahnke Cover – Mahnke has provided some fantastic covers for the book over the past two issues. This one features the return of Alan Moore’s Promethea. Don’t let it slip by. Already being listed for above cover on ebay.
Marvel Two-In-One #2 Dell’Otto Variant _ hard to pass up a Dell’Otto cover at cover price. Already starting to sell above cover price. These could be hard to find as many stores will skip over the book.
The Pick of the Week
Teen Titan’s #12 2nd print – We told you about this one a while ago. Second print of the first appearance of the hottest new DC character in a while (derivative or otherwise.) Took forever to come out. It is already selling for 2-3 times cover price. So grab a copy or two if your local store has them.
That is it for this week, let us know what you are spec-ing on. And in case you missed it, here is this week’s New Comic Spec Review video

Give Archie time that Jughead will end up just like Afterlife did, and I saw that they are doing a Vampire title next. I feel like Afterlife is never coming back so I just might dump all the issues I have, I haven’t decided yet. I’ll give them a little bit more time.
I dumped most of mine. Kept issue one and the variants for PC since I love Francavilla art thats on most of them.
But I agree about it vanishing like a fart in a car with the windows rolled down (well, a good chance)…. I think they got to issue 3 quickly cause the writers and artists were already done with them before printing them.
Surprised nobody specced on Thanos #15. Cosmic Ghost Rider reveal or whatever all hype?
Hopefully “somebody” will post some spoilers later. Hint, hint, wink, wink.
I almost did but decided not to. But you saw the spoiler post right? I don’t like it, I think it actually kills the value of Thanos 13 now since it’s just an existing character taking on the reigns of another existing character that is now cosmic. The only thing new about this Cosmic Ghost Rider is that he’s Cosmic, which really isn’t that new either since we had a space flying Ghost Rider already..
I do hear you. Still probably a quick flip winner. Sales are still going well.
Hmm..for a light week seems most of what you guys have mentioned is sold out across the board at Midtown tonight lol Oh well that’s what I get for waiting to pre-order!
Sold out online at Midtown doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to heat up or entirely sold out at Diamond. But yeah, Midtown does seem sold out faster than usual, perhaps they’re going lighter on some of their orders..
That Legion variant is really cool.
