Poyo’s Trade and Hardcover Picks of the Week

We shouldn’t just collect or flip books, we should also read them. A good story can make your purchase well worth the money spent if you ask me. After all, we buy books to read for entertainment right? Even if you can’t flip them, reading is just as rewarding.

We tend to focus on mostly the floppy copies each week and kind of ignore the trades and hardcovers that come out week after week.

The first pick this week goes to the favorite Clown in Town for most people and for anyone who is into Bermejo’s art.

Joker Deluxe Edition HC

The award-winning creative team behind Batman: Damned, Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo, present one of the most chilling Joker stories ever told, now in a Deluxe edition.

The Joker has been mysteriously released from Arkham Asylum, and he’s not happy about what’s been happening in his city while he’s been away.

What follows is a harrowing night of revenge, murder, and manic crime as only The Joker can deliver. He will take everything that is owed to him from the likes of the Penguin, the Riddler, Two-Face, Killer Croc, and of course, Batman…

This Deluxe edition includes a section of previously unpublished developmental art by Bermejo.

I love the story concept of this solicitation for this original graphic novel coming out from Dark Horse and Paul Levitz.

Unfinished Business HC

A priest, a minister and a rabbi walk into a bar . . . except they’re all dead. Not a zombie apocalypse (sorry, Walking Dead fans), but a bit of Unfinished Business that heaven needs the departed clerics to address, if they can. But what awaits them if they succeed–life, afterlife, or oblivion?

A tantalizing original graphic-novel mystery from Eisner Award-winner and Eisner Award Hall of Fame inductee Paul Levitz (Legion of Super-Heroes) and Simon Fraser (Kingsman: The Red Diamond, Doctor Who).

Paul Levitz is a comics industry legend as both an acclaimed writer and as a longtime editor, executive, and publisher at DC Comics. Simon Fraser’s work is known for his long-running stints on Nikolai Dante and Judge Dredd in 2000 AD magazine.

All you Neil Gaiman fans will want this in your wish list or pick up list.

Neil Gaiman Library Volume 1 HC

A deluxe oversized collection of comic stories from celebrated and award-winning writer Neil Gaiman, in conjunction with some of comics’ most acclaimed creators.

In these four essential Gaiman tales, a familiar detective finds himself at the heart of a Lovecraftian nightmare on Baker Street, a strange man delves into the heartbreaking mystery of a divine murder in paradise, teenage boys find that approaching girls can lead to more danger than romance, and a verbose gothic writer finds his true calling amidst family duels and drudgery.

Collects the full graphic novels A Study in Emerald, Murder Mysteries, How to Talk to Girls at Parties, and Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire in a single deluxe hardcover volume.

Four stories in an oversized hardcover!

  1. Someone wrote an article saying DIsney should remake the original Star Wars trilogy. I about fell out of my seat. All these comics, tv shows, cartoons, video games, prequels, postquels, toys, novels, and rides are all to make money from you. The original trilogy is one good and two great movies it wasn’t about lining Mickey and his investors pockets or even George Lucas’s pockets during the original trilogy. He was doing just fine making money with Indiana Jones. Then George got greedy and tried to replicate the love of the originals for the prequels and special editions and I’ll give them credit they got one good movie out of the three with Revenge of the Sith. The postquels and Solo suck and Rogue one was good enough I thought the actors did pretty decent. So why on Earth would you want to ruin the one thing that really is Star Wars?

    1. As much as a redo would make the CGI awesome, I still think the originals still stand up so I will always vote NO in redoing them.

    2. Merchandising rights. Made money didn’t even want to. The ge made the prequels because he loved his movie so much he wanted to share it with a younger generation. Dude your so wrong.

      1. “The ge made the prequels because he loved his movie so much he wanted to share it with a younger generation.”

….and make money doing it. Pretty sure he didn’t do all those prequels because he loved his story so much to share. From what I’ve gathered, I believe Lucas made a couple of billion off Star Wars before he sold to Disney, this includes all the movies, toys and merchandise. So yeah, he loved his story but he got paid generously for it all.

        1. I have a hard time believing if someone loved something they created so much, why’d they sell it all, retaining zero rights to any of it now? Lucas doesn’t even earn royalties from anything Star Wars related. He might not be some greedy snob but he certainly didn’t love it that much to just give it all away to one of the largest corporations in the world.
