Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 9/23/20

Every week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for comics delivering 9/23/20:

Ones to Watch
Suicide Squad #9 – Deadshot dies. Deaths are not always hot, or permanent, so we will see how it plays out.

New #1’s
Immortal She-Hulk One Shot – I am looking forward to reading this one. Covers She-Hulks Immortal History and her deaths.

Juggernaut #1 – Mew Marvel series featuring the immovable one. By Fabian Nicieza and Ron Garney. Looks like it is going to be a good read.

An Unkindness Of Ravens #1 – I really like the paranormal fighting/investigating team books. I really am looking forward to this one. There is a Frison and a Thank you Variant for this one as well.

X Of Swords Creation #1 – Higher priced Marvel event book. Some characters who will be prominent in this story have already started heating up.

Brooklyn Gladiator #1 – New Simon Bisley drawn comic from Heavy Metal. Niche but I do love Bisley art.

Fishkill #1 – Another new Heavy Metal book this week.

Hotline Miami Wildlife #1 – Small press comic based off video game. Could be interesting and may be worth a grab.

Miles To Go #1 – New Aftershock series by B. Clay Moore. I like his writing. Amara Bishop is a newly single mother with a long-buried past. Raised by an alcoholic father in a rundown trailer, Amara was a child when she learned to kill. And she hasn’t killed anyone since she was thirteen. When her aging mentor is murdered, and her daughter is threatened, that will soon change… An unlikely assassin in a deadly game of cat and mouse

Reprints of the Week
Spawn #309 2nd Ptg – I will say we do not see a whole lot of Spawn reprints. This is a hot cover still weeks later. Long term hold.

Tales Of Suspense #39 Facsimile Edition – Heck Yes, I have the third and fourth appearances of Iron-Man but getting a chance to own a copy (facsimile though) at cover price, I am going to jump on.

Thor #6 2nd Ptg – of the reprint Thor covers coming out this week, I like this one the best and feel it has the best shot at catching on.

Venom #26 3rd Ptg – the better of the two Venom reprints this week. The other being Venom #25 4th Ptg. Completists take not. I will say that some of the last prints tend to shoot up the most.

We Only Find Them When Theyre Dead #1 2nd Ptg – good looking cover for a cool new series.

Variant of the Week
Dark Nights Death Metal Speed Metal One Shot Peach Momoko Cover – Still money to be made if you can get it cheap. Is Robin King still of interest? We will find out.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Autumnal #1 – New book from Vault that has sold out at the bigger online retailers and the spec community has taken note of. Sold out at Diamond and pretty much dried up on eBay.

Pick of the Week
Venom #28 – Some pretty interesting revelations come out today. Spoilers will be posted later. Keep an eye out. This could become an important issue.

    1. I only see 6 listed so far as of this morning on eBay. 3 by the same seller. Wait for the undercutters to quickly flip their copies before they feel like they’ll be stuck with them.

    2. Those wont sell. You can go from a $4 sale to listing copies for $40. That’s not a gradual rise in value, thats being way too greedy and having delusions of grandeur.

      1. Yes but that is the way the market works. No copies listed. People list high copies. They either sell or don’t sell. They don’t sell the prices come down until a floor is established. It can grow from there or shrink from there but people aren’t going to list a new, sold out book, for less than cover are they? I listed mine high with best offers on. Why? Because I do not know where to post them at because there are nothing but high priced copies out there. Not greed, or delusion, but trying to figure out/ establish a market.

        1. Is this why my shop didn’t have my Cover A that I ordered. I’m finding another place to preorder books.

  1. Looking forward to reading the dc and marvel titles especially Immortal She-Hulk although I hope somewhere down the line she’d go back to her slimed down gamna form instead of the large muscled form that makes her look like she’s on gamma steroids.

  2. This market has lost its mind – it will be interesting to see if buyers are going to pay $40 plus for a book that just released. If there is a buy it now option just offer cover price.

      1. Some sellers do get bulk discount on books so they can sell at cover and still make money – but that was just me trying to be funny (which failed miserably)

        1. Yes. Those are retailers usually. I do get deals from time to time. I have copies of the JSC Black Widow #1 up for basically cover price plus shipping. I got those dirt cheap because of all the ratio variant chasers. The store didn’t want to deal with the bulk copies so i was happy to take some off their hand. But the book is also listed by everyone else around cover price.

    1. Again, why would a seller accept a cover price offer in a book they paid cover price for. As a seller, it is not my job to sell people books they cannot find at cover price. Think about it. I pay $3.99 for a book that costs me $3.99 plus .24 cents tax. Plus gas to get there. Plus time. So let’s say $5 (just for argument sake) to turn around and sell it to you for $3.99 minus .39 cents eBay fee. Minus .16 PayPal fees. $3.44 on a $5 book. However if I go on and list my comics and see everyone else asking a certain price I am going to come in around that mark.

    2. The point is, people are testing the market to see what price it will support. All the cover price copies sold out a day or two before the book came out. The book sold out at diamond so additional first print books are not going to be available for your stores to get for you if they didn’t get enough.

      1. I’m in agreement, was trying to crack a joke earlier (for some reason my comment got posted twice which was weird)

          1. Thanks! I’ll see if my LCS has any copies. They have a pretty strict one per customer policy which does make it a little easier to find in stock. But they don’t let you stock up on copies.
