From Forbes:
AfterShock Comics, one of the new imprints that has spun up in the past 5-7 years publishing creator-owned work in traditional comics genres like fantasy, science fiction, horror and action/adventure, has merged with reality TV distributor Rive Gauche to form a new company, AfterShock Media, according to an announcement released today. The merger is the latest in a string of expansion, financing and acquisition deals that have seen independent comic publishers beef up their media capabilities to take advantage of opportunities in film, television, streaming, games, podcasting and other emerging channels.
AfterShock Comics has built a business in the competitive second tier of the comics publishing industry behind market leaders Marvel and DC, which together account for upwards of 75% of periodical sales through the direct market of comics retailers. The company publishes titles including Animosity, Dark Red, Babyteeth and A Walk Through Hell, plus new work such as We Live (by the Miranda Brothers) and Miles to Go (written by B. Clay Moore). Its recent title Kaiju Score (written by James Patrick with art by Rem Broo) was just optioned for a feature film by Sony Pictures, with Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch attached to produce.
Rive Gauche is best known for unscripted series such as Homicide Hunter, Something’s Killing Me, Very Scary People, Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, Ice Cold Killer, My Strange Addiction, and My Crazy Obsession. Both companies are helmed by CEO Jon Kramer, who will assume CEO duties for the combined company.
I’d love to see A Walk Through Hell tv show.
I would too. Episodic would work very well for AWTH
