Covrprice.com Top Ten for Week of 3/5/22

Since Covrprice.com  came on the scene, they have become a go to spot for watching eBay trends on comics. They scour thousands of eBay sales to cultivate data to spotlight the hottest selling comics. Here is this week’s Top Ten Comics: (Please note, potential spoilers do follow, and, these results are for auction that closed last week. )

#10 AVENGERS WEST COAST #56 | MARVEL | 1990
The issue prior (Avengers West Coast #55) features the first appearance of the Dark Scarlet Witch costume/persona. However, her cover appearance on issue #56 is favored over #55. This book is trending due to the DOCTOR STRANGE AND THE MULTIVERSE trailer, which featured a darker, albeit evil, version of Scarlet Witch. There is speculation that this Dark Scarlet Witch could also be a variant. Regardless, this connection between the trailer and this comic helped move 26 copies this week with a 7-day trend of 127%, with raw FMV at $23 and a high sale of $300 for a CGC 9.8.

#9 NEW AVENGERS ILLUMINATI #1 | MARVEL | 2006
Still riding that DOCTOR STRANGE trailer heat, this Illuminati one-shot returns to the list, with 45 copies tracked at a 7-day trend of 96% and a high sale of $300 for a CGC 9.8.

#8 XERO #1 | DC | 1997
As previously noted, 50 Cent’s production company, G-Unit, is developing this obscure Christopher Priest comic into a live-action film. The fire under this comic is still raging, with 18 copies tracked at a 7-day trend of 278% and a high sale of $100 for a raw copy!! The raw FMV has since settled to $81.

#7 SUPERIOR IRON MAN #1 | MARVEL | 2014
This issue features the first appearance of “Superior Iron Man” and his Endo Sym Armor. After the initial surge of interest from the DOCTOR STRANGE: MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS trailer focused on The Illuminati, it pivoted to the mysterious glowing figure fighting Scarlet Witch at the 1:35 mark. The immediate speculation went to Tom Cruise as Superior Iron Man, a Tony Stark variant and member of that world’s Illuminati. While this has been highly debated and even debunked, many collectors still feel strongly about him showing up one way or another in the film, leading to 42 copies sold this week with a 7-day trend of 119% and a high sale of $191.50 for an NM+ raw copy.

#6 SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN #21 ASHCAN | BOOM! | 2022
This one per store exclusive ashcan is still hot this week. Featuring a simple logo on black, all Something is Killing the Children fans seem to be wanting a copy. We tracked 44 sales this week at a 7-day trend of 119%, with a high sale of $199.15 for a raw copy and an FMV value of $135 raw.

#5 IRON MAN #17 JOSHUA SWAY SWABY BLACK HISTORY MONTH | MARVEL | 2022
Sway is quickly gaining more and more attention as a rising star artist. His Riri Williams cover was a surprise hit of last week’s new releases with 46 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 129%, and a high sale of $25 for a raw copy.

#4 IRON FIST #1 | MARVEL | 2022
Lin Lie, formerly Sword Master, is officially the new Iron Fist. After all the speculation around his brother, we can now move forward with Lin in his new role. This issue landed on the list for a second week in a row after trending with 57 sales tracked at a 7-day trend of 125% and a high sale of $18 for a raw copy.

#3 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #307 | MARVEL | 1988
Deadline recently reported that “‘Kraven The Hunter’: ‘White Lotus’ Breakout Fred Hechinger To Play Chameleon In Sony’s Marvel Pic.” Unfortunately, his first appearance is in the very pricey AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 (1963). Since that is FAR out of reach for most of us, the most accessible book to pick up is this issue, as it features his origin, an upgrade in his power levels, and a full solo cover by Todd McFarlane. We tracked 51 copies sold this week, at a 7-day trend of 151%, and had a high sale of $117.74 for a CGC 9.6.

#2 TWIG ASHCAN #1 | IMAGE | 2022
Recently, artist Kyle Strahm provided preview copies on his website of his upcoming book titled TWIG from Image Comics (May 4th), written by Skottie Young. They cost $20 each and were limited to one per person. This past week, copies were moving swiftly on sites like eBay and quickly climbed in price. We tracked 54 copies sold with a 7-day trend of 144%. Raw copies hit high sales of $235, though they have since settled to an FMV of $126.

#1 NEW AVENGERS #7 | MARVEL | 2005
As noted, the Illuminati’s live-action appearance seems to be highly likely in DOCTOR STRANGE AND THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS. Their first appearance (featuring Reed Richards, Namor, Stephen Strange, Charles Xavier, Black Bolt, and Tony Stark) is in this issue and was instantly on fire post-Super Bowl. Covrprice tracked 116 (almost double the number of copies last week, which is an odd trend since books like this tends to fall after the first week of heat) with a 7-day trend of 79% and a high sale of $550 for a CGC 9.8 and raw copies at an FMV of $72.
