As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.
#11 SPIDER-MAN #1 TODD MCFARLANE REGULAR | MARVEL | 1990
The stunning and iconic cover by Todd McFarlane will always keep this book relevant, and with a print run of one million for the regular edition, this book is bound to pop up repeatedly, and for good reason. Such a large print run suggests they are relatively bountiful, and with constant cover homages, the population tends to return to the original. With a relatively low entry price of both raw and graded copies, an iconic cover with some added nostalgia, we tracked 18 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 145% with a high sale of $291.75 for a CGC 9.8.
#12 NOVA #1 | MARVEL | 1976
While Sam Alexander as Nova is unconfirmed to appear in the currently in-development NOVA project, Richard Rider’s Nova is almost a sure thing. His first appearance in this issue has been trending ever since Kevin Feige first mentioned it several years ago. With official confirmation, this issue is now on fire, with 28 copies tracked at a 7-day trend of 95% and a high sale of $740 for a CGC 9.6.
#13 SPIDER-MAN 2099 #1 | MARVEL | 1992
Collectors are still picking up this first ongoing series of Spider-Man 2099. These sales will continue well up to (and after) the release of SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE 2. This week we tracked 25 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 109% and a high sale of $174.50 for a CGC 9.8.
#14 KING CONAN #3 | MARVEL | 2022
As previously mentioned, writer Jason Aaron was recently criticized for giving his highly sexualized supernatural princess in this issue the name Matoaka, which is known to be the actual name of Pocahontas. The true story of Pocahontas is now seen as a tragic one, centered around slavery and abuse. Aaron apologized, admittedly not knowing the sensitivity over the name’s use, and noted that “the character’s name and appearance will be adjusted for the rest of this mini-series and in all digital and collected editions.” Aaron also donated all money received for this issue and donated it to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center. So, while this was not recalled, it will be the only copy with the Matoaka name and sent collectors online to obtain a copy. We tracked 22 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 121% and a high sale of $21 for a raw copy.
#15 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #93 – GERARDO SANDOVAL (1:25) | MARVEL | 2022
Ben Reily, a clone of Peter Parker, embarks on a new persona as the villain CHASM. This new role will have MANY fans divided. Despite the controversial new shift for one of the first of many alternate Spider characters, we tracked 25 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 104%, and had a high sale of $67 for a raw copy.
#16 BATTLESTAR GALACTICA #1 – WHITMAN | MARVEL | 1979
As noted, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA returned to the Top 10 this week after various online sources highlighting this first Marvel issue as a book to pick-up. This Whitman variant is getting some new attention and big sales with 15 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 171%, and had a high sale of $749 for a CGC 9.8.
#17 STRANGE ACADEMY #16 – RYAN STEGMAN – CHARACTER SPOTLIGHT | MARVEL | FEB 23, 2022
While the focus on this variant is the full appearance of Howie, this gorgeous B cover features a solo cover spotlight of Eva Quintero, cousin of the Marvel character REPTIL. We tracked 13 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 182% with a high sale of $26 for a raw copy.
#18 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #265 | MARVEL | 1985
It’s rumored that actor Christopher Abbott will be playing The Foreigner in Sony’s KRAVEN film. In the comics, The Foreigner was formerly Married to Silver Sable, and this connection has allowed speculators to believe that Silver Sable may also appear in the film. Her first appearance in this issue moved 15 copies this week, at a 7-day trend of 176%, and had a high sale of $601.48 for a CGC 9.8.
#19 POINT ONE #1 | MARVEL | 2011
There are rumors that both the Richard Rider and Sam Alexander versions of Nova are in active development. Sam’s first appearance in this issue is still super hot with 21 copies sold, had a 7-day trend of 103%, and had a high sale of $385 for a CGC 9.8.
#20 X-MEN #4 | MARVEL | 1992
While many of Marvel’s content rumors in 2021 turned out to be accurate, the speculated MCU introduction of Omega Red and Mephisto were the two biggest misfires of the year. So much so that both are now running jokes. The comic community was so into this book that it landed on our Top 10 four times last year. Omega Red didn’t appear in THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER nor WANDAVISION, though collectors are STILL buying into this book with 21 sales tracked last week at a 7-day trend of 100%. Though it did drop half its value from an all-time high of $500 for a 9.8 to its highest sale this week of $200 for a 9.8.
