As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.
Plus, I am adding last week’s at the bottom, as requested, to catch things up. (I was on the road)
#11 AVENGERS #246 | MARVEL | 1984
This is the first appearance of Maria Rambeau, and we’ll just leave it there. That’s it—nothing else to add. We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 172%, with a high sale of $38 for a raw copy.
#12 WHAT IF? #10 | MARVEL | 1978
Although some may debate that this book is the first appearance of Jane Foster’s Thor, many disagree. Much like the EXILES #3 and CAPTAIN CARTER #1 debate, WHAT IF? #10 debuts a different version of Jane Foster’s Thor. The character in question goes by the name of Thordis. Thirty-five years later, Jane would once again pick up Mjolnir and become Thor in the mainstream Marvel Universe, in THOR #1. One thing is for certain, finding this book over THOR #1 is a much harder hunt. CGC currently has 155 copies of this book at 9.8, compared to THOR #1’s 2,703 copies (CGC 9.8). While it fell to the runner-up list week, we still tracked 35 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 94%, with a high sale of $400 for a CGC 9.4.
#13 SPIDER-WOMAN #1 | MARVEL | 2015
Comic book content-related news poured in from Cinemacon this week. It was noted that attendees watched fifteen minutes of SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE. One notable detail fans latched onto was that Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew, is pregnant. This is directly pulled from Marvel’s 2015 Spider-Woman series. Now, sales are light for this issue, ranging from cover price (ding!) to $15. Typically, these story-centric shared events don’t tend to make great investments. Without a key first, it’s hard for books like this to retain their market value long-term. However, this current market can be unpredictable. We tracked 21 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 187%, with a high sale of $15 for a raw copy (though currently trending at an FMV of $5).
#14 SILK #4 JEEHYUNG LEE | MARVEL | 2022
Silk debuted back in 2014 and still only has a handful of iconic covers. Jeehyung Lee delivers masterful work in presenting Silk in her original webbed costume. Her elegant presence serves as a delicate contrast between her and the city she protects. Lee’s prominence keeps this book at an FMV of $11.69, while other standard variants remain at $4. Lee’s exclusive virgin variant of this cover is another book to keep on the watchlist! We tracked 38 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 101%, with a high sale of $15 for a raw copy.
#15 CAPTAIN CARTER #1 2ND PRINT | MARVEL | 2022
While fans clamor over the 1st print of CAPTAIN CARTER 1, the 2nd print is blazing a trail in hot pursuit. Although the FMV is slightly lower, at $12.19, the latest sale for a raw copy went for $15. With 21 sold copies tracked, at a 7-day trend of 156%, this book is quickly catching up to the 1st print!
#16 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #93 ARTHUR ADAMS REGULAR | MARVEL | 2022
While not wholly celebrated over this new path for Ben Reily, fans were still all over this first appearance of Chasm, causing all issues to trend with 18 copies tracked at a 7-day trend of 145% and a high sale of $255 for a CGC 9.8.
#17 MARC SPECTOR MOON KNIGHT #35 | MARVEL | 1992
Disney+’s Moon Knight series has created an increased interest in the overall Moon Knight’s mythos. This book highlights an important villain from Marc Spector’s past, his brother Randall Spector. The man, who becomes Shadowknight, plays a pivotal role in Moon Knight’s rogue gallery. Aside from seeing Randall in last week’s Moon Knight, Marvel solicitations advertise the return of Shadowknight in Strange #4! We tracked 15 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 147%, with a high sale of $192.50 for a raw copy.
#18 BATMAN BEYOND THE WHITE KNIGHT #1 | DC | 2022
The cameo appearance of a new Robin (and Red Hood’s sidekick) continues its hot trend with 18 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 125%, and had a high sale of $26 for a raw copy.
#19 MOON KNIGHT #1 | MARVEL | 1980
Each week continues to deliver a new twist for Moon Knight on Disney+, leading buyers not to think twice, propelling this first issue of Moon Knight’s first ongoing series to a 7-day trend of 82% and a high sale of $708 for a CGC 9.8. The fandom holds its breath as we await the final episode of Moon Knight, debuting this Wednesday.
#20 WOLVERINE #1 (MARVEL, 1988)
This LONG undervalued first issue to Wolverine’s first ongoing series has been picking up steam over the past year. In 2021, Disney+ revealed that X-Men: The Animated Series was being revived for 2023. Additionally, Dr. Strange trailers have shown a brief glimpse of Patrick Stewart’s Professor Xavier. This type of news has rekindled interest in the X-Men; more importantly, the Weapon X known as Wolverine. This issue sold 20 copies, had a 7-day trend of 118%, and had a high sale of $650 for a CGC 9.8.
And last weeks……
#11 BLOODSTONE #1 | MARVEL | 2001
Loose rumors from Comic Circus propelled this book onto our runner-up list. Specifically, it’s mentioned that actress Laura Donnelly will be playing the titular character of Elsa Bloodstone in the upcoming “Werewolf By Night” Halloween special due later this year. Fans are eager for more of the supernatural from Marvel. With Elsa having connections to Werewolf By Night, The Midnight Suns, Dracula, Chthon, and a plethora of other monsters, fans are grabbing up this book to secure her first appearance before she allegedly graces the screen. We tracked 15 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 133%, with a high sale of $925 for a CGC 9.8.
#12 JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY ANNUAL #1 | MARVEL |1965
Fans were treated with a glimpse of Olympus and the backside of Zeus, played by Russel Crowe, in the recent trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder! In a blink and you’ll miss it moment, statues of the other Greek Gods were visible, setting off speculation on exactly who we may see in the upcoming film. With this book being the first appearance of Olympus, Zeus, and Hercules, fans figure Hercules may be the lucky winner who has not been depicted so far. With past titanic battles between Thor and Hercules in comics, this book is seeing an uptick as buyers hope this will translate to the larger MCU. We tracked 11 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 193%, with a high sale of $2,600 for a CGC 8.0.
#13 BATMAN BEYOND THE WHITE KNIGHT #1 | DC | 2022
This book remains steadfast on our runners-up list after falling out of the Top 10 the week prior. The buzz around the new Robin remains as this book has seen 42 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 91%, and had a high sale of $20 for a raw copy. However, the current raw FMV is $17.
#14 MOON KNIGHT #1| MARVEL | 1980
And the unpredictable streak continues! Each week delivers a new twist for Moon Knight on Disney+, leading buyers not to think twice, propelling this book to a 7-day trend of 101% and a high sale of $880 for a CGC 9.8.
#15 SPAWN #9 | IMAGE | 1993
These rumors of Angela being introduced in the MCU via GUARDIANS will just not go away. Owners of the book don’t mind as her first appearance continues to climb. With a long and heated rights battle between Todd McFarlane and Neil Gaiman, Gaiman was the winner of a substantial settlement and gained ownership of Angela. Later, Gaiman sold the character to Marvel, making her THOR’s sister. The ole MCU rumor bug helped this issue sell 38 copies, had a 7-day trend of 111%, and had a high sale of $195.47 for a CGC 9.8.
#16 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #93 PATRICK GLEASON WEBHEAD | MARVEL | 2022
CHASM, aka Ben Reily, a clone of Peter Parker, is back on our runner’s up list- for a good reason. With a litany of variants, this cover done by Patrick Gleason is the only one with Chasm on the cover. With spider-esque ability, this book hangs around the runners-up list with 29 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 92% and a high sale of $21 for a raw copy.
#17 ULTIMATE FALLOUT #4 | MARVEL | 2011
Miles mania continues as this book keeps on reaching new heights. The first appearance of the all-new Spider-Man, this book flew under the radar for years before becoming a modern sought-after key. With a well-received animated movie under his belt and a sequel in the works, fans are speculating we will see much more of Miles in the future. This week saw 23 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 84%, and had a high sale of $3,350 for a CGC 9.8.
#18 YOUNG AVENGERS #1 | MARVEL | 2005
Marvel is seemingly laying the groundwork for a live-action Young Avengers film or tv series, already introducing several characters who first appeared in this book. Kate Bishop, Eli Bradley, and Billy Kaplan have already been introduced, with speculation that the rest are a matter of time. While there are several volumes of the Young Avengers, fans are banking on this issue, from the first volume being the must-have. Will we see a new iteration of the Avengers? Only time will tell. This week, we tracked 12 copies sold, with a 7-day trend of 155%, and had a high sale of $840 for a CGC 9.8.
#19 DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE BLOODSTONE #1 DAVID NAKAYAMA| MARVEL | 2022
Lyra Bloodstone, the elder sister of Elsa Bloodstone, makes her first appearance in this book. Returning from exile after the death of Dr. Strange, she has the uncanny ability due to the Nullgem to absorb magic. Definitely an ability to have after the death of the Sorcerer Supreme, and with a title such as The Multiverse of Madness, fans are curious about what might come to pass. We tracked 20 copies with a 7-day trend of 89% and had a high sale of $120 for a CGC 9.8 (pre-sale) with raws at an FMV of $12.
#20 THOR #1 FIONA STAPLES (1:25) | MARVEL | 2014
This 1:25 variant done by Fiona Staples stands out amongst the 15 other variants of this first issue. Being the only one to feature Jane Foster pulverizing an enemy with Mjolnir, fans continue to pick this book up as the Thor movie draws closer. What better way to break in the first appearance of Jane Foster as Thor? We tracked 14 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 126%, with a high sale of $399.99 for a CGC 9.8.
