As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.
#11 MULLET COP #1 | SCOUT | 2021
Last week, Scout released a press release announcing that they have “partnered with screenwriter James Butler to develop Tom Lintern’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi comedy MULLET COP as an animated series. Kevin Biggins is attached as showrunner, and Adriel Garcia will direct.” This news caused an uptick in sales and price as we tracked 35 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 212%, with a high sale of $20 for a raw copy.
#12 WHAT IF? #10 | MARVEL | 1978
Although some may debate that this book is the first appearance of Jane Foster’s Thor, many disagree. Much like the EXILES #3 and CAPTAIN CARTER #1 debate, WHAT IF? #10 debuts a different version of Jane Foster’s Thor. The character in question goes by the name of Thordis. Thirty-five years later, Jane would once again pick up Mjolnir and become Thor in the mainstream Marvel Universe, in THOR #1. We tracked 28 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 114%, with a high sale of $500 for a CGC 9.6.
#13 SPAWN #9 | IMAGE | 1993
As noted last week, persistent rumors of ANGELA being introduced into the MCU via GUARDIANS continue to drive Angela’s first appearance. We’ll have to see if the Spawn alum will take up her current mantle as Thor’s sister in the film. It would be fun to see! This week, we tracked 18 copies at a 7-day trend of 174%, with a high sale of $170 for a CGC 9.8.
#14 X-MEN #4 | MARVEL | 1992
While many of Marvel’s content rumors in 2021 were (mostly) accurate, the MULTIPLE speculated MCU introductions of Omega Red and Mephisto were some of the year’s biggest misfires. So much so that Mephisto became a running joke. The comic community was so into this book that it landed on our Top 10 four times that year. Despite this, collectors are STILL buying into this book, with 23 sales tracked last week at a 7-day trend of 116%, with a high sale of $227.50.
#15 SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN #23 JENNY FRISON VIRGIN BLOODY (1 PER STORE) | BOOM! STUDIOS | 2022
SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN (SIKTC) has left a definitive impact on the comic fandom. In 2019 we saw the debut of Erica Slaughter in what was supposed to be a limited 5-part series. In 2020, the ongoing series won the Eisner Award for Best New Series. Today, SIKTC debuts some of the most collectible covers on the market. This particular cover, by artist Jenny Frison, is limited to 1 per store. The limited availability and prominent cover artist have caused this book to spike. We tracked 29 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 79%, with a high sale of $70 for a raw copy.
#16 VENOM LETHAL PROTECTOR #1 | MARVEL | 1993
What is the future of Sony’s Venom, aka “The Lethal Protector”? A mix of nostalgia, a great cover, and a key Venom issue helped this market favorite trend this week with 19 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 122%, and a high sale of $180 for a CGC 9.8.
#17 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #4 | MARVEL | 2014
In this issue, the radioactive spider that bit Peter Parker is BACK and looking for its next victim! As you all know, Cindy Moon/Silk’s first full appearance was in this issue. We’ve covered this book MANY times over the years, focusing on its aftermarket yo-yo surges and drops. However, this book shows a more steady and organic incline than before. This week we tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 113%, with a high sale of $399 for a CGC 9.8.
#18 MOON KNIGHT #1 | MARVEL | 1980
This origin of Moon Knight, along with the first appearance of Bushman and Khonshu, continues to track as new fans continue to watch the Moon Knight series. It’s unknown where and when we’ll see him next, but we definitely need more! This week we tracked 21 copies sold with a 7-day trend of 102% and a high sale of $729.99 for a CGC 9.8.
#19 SPAWN #1 | IMAGE | 1992
What’s left to say about SPAWN #1? It has a massive print run, and content seems ways away. Still, Spawn is one of the most beloved modern comic characters driven by nostalgia and McFarlane fans. Since the dawn of CoverPrice, this particular issue has been the best-selling comic of all comics we track. This week, his reign continues with 25 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 104%, and a high sale of $201 for a CGC 9.8
#20 CAPTAIN CARTER #1 | MARVEL | 2022
What more can be said about Captain Carter? Her presence in the MCU and mainstream comics has garnered interest from the collective fandom. This book, and its ratio cover, have managed to stay on our lists for the past month or more. This book is nearly three months old and continues to see a positive sales trend as we tracked 23 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 106%, with a high sale of $220 for a CGC 9.8.
