CovrPrice.Com Runners-Up for Week of 8/12/22

As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.

#11 MEET THE SKRULLS #1 | MARVEL | 2019
The solicitation for Secret Invasion dropped on Disney+ to go with a release date of Spring 2023. It specifically mentions a group infiltrating for years. While that could mean many Skrulls, many fans’ attention shifted to this book. It features the first appearance of The Warners, a Skrull family that has completely integrated into society (with a dad who works at Shield), and G’iah. There is precedent for a semi-crossover as G’iah has disguised herself as Pepper Potts before. Some sites speculate that this is actress Emilia Clarke’s secret role (instead of the other rumored roles of Veranke the Skrull Queen and S.W.O.R.D director Abigail Brand). We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 160%, with a high sale of $18.16 for a raw copy with an FMV of $15.

#12 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #5 | MARVEL | 1999
The upcoming Madame Web film has some potential, and fans are desperately hoping for a Spidey-centric outing that features characters with the title ‘Spider’ in them. One such hope is we could see the 3rd costumed Spider-Woman, Mattie Franklin, who first appeared in this book. Maybe a reach, but with little information coming from the movie, fans are left to speculate as she trained under Madame Web and Jessica Drew. Also, she did die at the hands of Ana Kravinoff, the daughter of Kraven (upcoming Kraven movie anybody?) Is a giant web being developed behind the scenes at Sony? Us fans may never know. We tracked 10 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 187%, with a high sale of $125 for a CGC 9.6 and a raw FMV of $22.

#13 BANG #ASHCAN | DARK HORSE | 2020
Per Deadline, “Netflix and Dark Horse Entertainment have inked a multi-year, first-look film and TV deal extending their creative partnership, at the same time announcing the launch of development on two new projects—a film titled Bang! and a series called Mind MGMT.” This has already lit a fire under issue #1 and the ashcan. We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 124%, with a high sale of $163 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw FMV of $20.

#14 CAPTAIN MARVEL #23 | MARVEL | 2020
This book is a deep cut, featuring the first appearance of the children of two heavy hitters in Marvel comics. Ove, son of Namor, and Brigid, daughter of Thor. Ove had a rough go of things, born into a decimated world, and this led him to be a nemesis of Captain Marvel, among other things. But, could we see the son of Namor so quickly? There is so much mystery surrounding the next phases of the MCU, and fans are appreciative. Who doesn’t like connecting dots? We tracked 14 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 421%, with a high sale of $86 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw FMV of $11.

#15 SPAWN #1 | IMAGE | 1992
Todd McFarlane has been on a tear as of late, delivering amazing content across pop-culture fandom. But, fans want more Spawn and have eagerly awaited any news. They got the announcement of another Spawn/Batman title, with a smidge of Spawn movie updates at SDCC, with more to come at NYCC. Bring on the Spawn excitement, and luckily there is plenty of this issue to go around for fans of the series in just about every grade. However, we tracked 49 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 90%, and a high sale of $220.21for a CGC 9.8 with a raw FMV of $33.

#16 AMAZING FANTASY #1 | MARVEL | 2004
There have been some strong rumors the community may be getting Anya Corazon, aka Arana (or Spider-Girl), on the big screen in the upcoming Madame Web. This movie has been shrouded in shadow, with few details to speak of escaping outside of the recent casting confirmations. But one rumor has persisted: Isabela Merced will portray Arana in the upcoming Sony picture. Fans feel strongly enough there is some validity to these rumors, opting to pick up some copies. We tracked 28 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 103%, with a high sale of $200 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw FMV of $42.

#17 WONDER MAN #1 | MARVEL | 1991
We haven’t seen this title for a while, but interest is picking back up amongst the rumors an update regarding the series could be revealed at D23. As previously noted, ComicBook.com reports that the Wonder Man series could be a satire set in Hollywood. While this is not confirmed, the rumor has increased interest in the first ongoing Wonder Man series, which primarily takes place in Hollywood. We tracked 19 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 125%, with a high sale of $150 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw FMV of $11.

#18 IRON MAN & SUB-MARINER #1 | MARVEL | 1968
This book pre-dates both Iron Man #1 and Sub-Mariner #1, and oddly enough, is the first intentionally made one-shot. Basically, it was compiled of cast-off stories before the characters were expanded into their own solo titles. Still, fans want it in anticipation of the debut of Namor in the MCU and the ever-present, distant rumblings that Iron Man may return. We tracked 14 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 172%, with a high sale of $400 for a CGC 7.0 and a raw FMV of $153.

#19 STAR WARS #1 | MARVEL | 1977
With six major first appearances in comics of some of the most iconic and recognizable characters in pop culture, this book is bound to see continuous solid sales and a healthy market. With a tough black cover, new and old collectors tend to pick these high-grade copies of this book up when they can. We tracked 16 copies sold with a 7-day trend of 128% and had a high sale of $4,800 for a CGC 9.8 with a raw FMV of $230.

#20 MARVEL SUPER-HEROES SECRET WARS #1 | MARVEL | 1984
We’re a few weeks removed since Marvel dropped the slate for their next two phases of the MCU. With one of those titles being SECRET WARS, we’re bound to see increased interest in anything associated as we enter the quiet before the storm. This book competes with the 2015 limited series SECRET WARS #1, and fans debate which storyline the film will follow. While we wait for more information, both Secret Wars books have been steadily increasing in value. We tracked 26 copies, had a 7-day trend of 108%, and had a high sale of $200 for a CGC 9.6 to go with a raw FMV of $52.
