Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday
Hey Wednesday Warriors, pretty good week, a lot of comics, with some books with real potential.
New #1’s
Action Journalism #1 – As a sinister alien armada looms over the earth, New Arcadia’s favorite intrepid reporter, Kate Kelly, has just two hours to infiltrate the fleet, uncover their most scandalous secrets, land the interview of the century, and avert interstellar war-and not necessarily in that order. The fast-paced, genre-hopping adventures of the Action Journalism team start here!
Aliengaged #1 – As an alien attack rampages the city, Garrett accepts that his time has finally come. It’s the end of life as he knows it… as a single man, that is. Blinded by love, Garrett is blissfully unaware of his apocalyptic surroundings as he strolls through the mania to pop the question to his girlfriend, Claire. Meanwhile, Garrett’s best friend, Morris, races through the city to save them both.
Azza The Barbed #1 – Azza was born into a family that, for generations, served in the Obsidian Guard, a military unit of holy warriors. During Azza’s coronation, a magical ceremony that would imbue her with a holy glowing power, something went wrong. Instead of the sacred Obsidian tattoos, she became marred with thorned, black markings. With an emotional, comedic, and awe-inspiring story of empowerment, Azza the Barbed blends fantasy, adventure, mythology, horror, and action in this unforgettable new series.
Bloodshot Unleashed #1 – New Bloodshot series kicks off, Valiant keeps trying.
Eternus #1 – This one got some press due to Andy Serkis
Heavens Rejects #1 – What if Charlie’s Angels were real angels? When three violent, foul-mouthed angels are dumped on Earth after flunking out of Heaven’s army, they find out the hard way that life ain’t cheap. Good deeds don’t pay the rent, so these angels agree to freelance for a gang of demons, killing their evil rivals for cash. The angels get paid, fight wickedness, and take money away from bad guys. That’s good, right? Join this angelic suicide squad on a wild ride into epic, mythological, asskicking action. Your job still sucks, but these ladies have it worse. Say YES to Heaven’s Rejects!
Titans United Bloodpact #1 – The Titans are back, united against a common foe…aren’t they? All seems lost when Tim Drake wakes, out of uniform and seemingly out of time. Surely he was just fighting alongside Nightwing, Superboy, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Donna Troy? But where is Raven and what links her to the Fearsome Five? A blood sacrifice is coming that will change the world forever.
X-Terminators #1 – Second volume of the X-Terminators team kicks off, some cool covers.
One and Done
Harley Quinn 30th Anniversary Special – 30th Anniversary special, high cover price, but some great covers including one from J. Scott Campbell, Adam Hughes, and the 1:25 Amanda Connor Cover
Chilling Adventures Presents Weirder Mysteries – Love the Archie horror books, this one is described as a mix of the X-Files and Black Mirror.
For the Cover
Catwoman #47 Sozomaika Card Stock Cover – Cover price Sozomaika cover art, I cannot pass up.
Draculina #6 Ergun Gunduz Cover – Cover L by Turkish artist Ergun Gunduz brings a classic Warren feel to this issue of Draculina.
Draculina #6 Shannon Maer Cover – This cover B by Shannon Maer is sold out in a few places online, which means fans could be chasing it.
Elvira In Horrorland #4 – Three Nightmare on Elm Street covers, the A, B, and C covers are all NoES homages. Love it.
Notable Reprints
Action Comics #1 Facsimile Edition – I sold several Detective 27 facsimiles at a profit already. People want the first appearance without paying millions, that is why the older reprints end up selling for decent money. A buy and hold.
Frank Miller Presents Ashcan Edition #1 2nd Ptg – First print went crazy and then cooled off a bit, worth picking up to see Ronin preview and check out what else is to come.
Halloween Picks
We are a little over a month away from Halloween, which means, HORROR COMICS!
Creepshow #1 – Horror movie favorite, tV show favorite, and classic comic favorite. Can’t miss for me.
Stuff Of Nightmares #1 – RL Stein returns to comics with a new series perfect for fans of EC Horror.
Small Press Pick of the Week
Vanish #1 – Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman create a new character. Ton of ratio variants on it, so I a sticking with cover A.
Cover of the Week
Star Wars Darth Vader #27 Choose Your Destiny Cover – Cover appearance of Darth Bane, sweet looking cover.
Pick of the Week
Edge Of Spider-Verse #4 – Excellent potential with two new spiders appearing, Sun Spider and Spinstress. As with any of these issues, all it is going to take is one to make it to the screen in Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse 2 (and there are supposed to be hundreds of characters appearing) and these could shoot up.
