As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.
#11 POISON IVY #7 JOSHUA MIDDLETON FOIL (1:50) | DC | 2022
Joshua Middleton is a master at various art styles. He’s easily one of the industry’s most versatile and talented artists. Many of today’s hot artists tend to produce the same pose or style. This is not the case with Middleton, as seen by this gorgeous 1:50 foil cover. This a variant that fans pick up and keep in their collections. We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 137%, with a high sale of $60 for a raw copy. The current NM FMV is at $43.
#12 WOLVERINE #17 | MARVEL | 1989
This classic John Byrne Wolverine cover makes the runner list with 13 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 137%, with a high sale of $145 for a CGC 9.8. This issue starts the run to one of Wolverine fans’ favorite storylines. Issues #17 to #23 is a crazy storyline where Wolverine fights a Nazi ghost cyborg and sentient cocaine. To read this wild adventure, pick up Vol. 4 of the Wolverine Classic TPB.
#13 MARJORIE FINNEGAN TEMPORAL CRIMINAL #1 ANDY CLARKE | ARTIST WRITERS & ARTISANS INC | 2021
As previously noted, an adaptation of this comic has a director, Ruben Fleisher, attached to the project and an unnamed screenwriter. Both the standard edition and variant made the Top 10 list last week, only to already fall to the runner-up list this week. This is how content-related comics go. The price spike for these issues is VERY short-lived lately. It’s also important to note that not every optioned project gets made. This is a fun story and does have solid content potential. However, now’s the time to look for a copy for cover price (ding!) or less. Then wait to see how this project takes shape. It’s easier to be out $4 than buying at the height of the market at $15+. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 123%, with a high sale of $12.99 for an NM raw copy. The current FMV is at $7. The Midtown Signed copies are doing well.
#14 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #300 | MARVEL | 1988
This is easily one of the most important and iconic modern comics. Not only is it a hyper-collected cover by The Toddfather, but it also features the first full appearance of one of comic’s favorite anti-heroes, Venom. At its height in 2021, 9.8s reached as high as $8,000. In today’s market, it’s currently half that with this week’s new high of $4320 for a CGC 9.8. This sharp drop allowed eager collectors to jump into a more accessible price point. Granted, this is double 2020 prices, when 9.8s sold for $2,000. So, maybe this is the value leveling back out? Either way, there was a boost in sales this week, with 19 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 112%.
#15 PANDORA #1 | FRANK MILLER PRESENTS LLC | 2022
Frank Miller Presents publishing arm has been delivering hot title after hot title. There was a lot of market interest in their new series, Pandora (ironically released VERY close to Avatar 2’s film release). It is seeing bumps in price as fans have trouble finding a copy at their LCS. We tracked 26 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 125%, with a high sale of $12.59 for a raw copy.
#16 POISON IVY #7 DAN PANOSIAN (1:25) | DC | 2022
Another variant of Poison Ivy #7 makes the runner-up list. Dan Panosian’s cover is also gorgeous and saw a short-lived trend. We tracked 26 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 98%, with a high sale of $22.04 for a raw copy. However, the current NM FMV has settled to $11.
#17 DEADPOOL #1 KEN LASHLEY THE HAUL NOTORIOUS B.I.G. | MARVEL | 2022
Despite Biggie’s first Marvel cover appearance finally falling to the runner-up list, it’s important to note that this is still doing very well in the aftermarket. While sales may be slowing, the market value remains high. We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 91%, with a high sale of $123.50 for an NM raw copy.
#18 THE OMEGA MEN #3 | DC | 1983
Lobo’s first appearance was almost out last week at #20 on the runner-up list. However, he rallied a bit and was able to hold a spot this week. Copies of the first appearance of Lobo are still moving as James Gunn and Jason Mamoa have stoked the flames of speculation. Now’s the time to keep an eye on this key issue, as prices will begin to fall until official casting (if it ever comes) reignites sales in a much bigger way. Yes, this week, we tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 91%, with a high sale of $405 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a raw NM FMV of $99.
#19 STAR WARS #1 | MARVEL | 1977
Like Amazing Spider-Man #300, collectors are using the current market dip to invest in mega modern (well, bronze, in this case) keys. With so much positive growth in the Star Wars universe, this may be one of the most important comics to invest in. This is especially the case while sales for a 9.8 are about $3K below where there were in March 2022. This week, we tracked 18 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 102%, with a high sale of $4,560 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw VF FMV of $204.
#20 MARVEL SUPER-HEROES SECRET WARS #1 | MARVEL | 1984
When MCU’s Phase 5 was announced, all fans had to speculate on was simply based on the film/TV titles. Kevin Feige and Marvel insiders mentioned the grand plans of Phase 5, culminating with Secret Wars. On the speculation level, this book competes with the 2015 limited series SECRET WARS #1, as fans debate which storyline the film will follow. Yet, fans always go back to where things started, like this 1984 first issue. This week, we tracked 14 copies, had a 7-day trend of 104%, and had a high sale of $500 for a CGC 9.8 to go with a raw NM FMV of $57.
