CovrPrice.Com Runners-Up for Week of 2/10/23

As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.

#11 ALL-STAR SUPERMAN #1 | DC | 2005
James Gunn LOVES Grant Morrison, which highly shows in the large volume of Morrison-based titles that Gunn will reference to create the upcoming Chapter 1 slate. Keep in mind that Superman dies at the end of this series. So, Gunn will likely ONLY be using this as a template for his Superman. Due to this, while it’s selling many copies in the aftermarket, it’s trailing way behind in price than other books on this list, comparatively. We tracked 56 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 183%, with a high sale of $28 for a raw copy and a current NM FMV of $15.

#12 BATMAN #657 | DC | 2006
Surprisingly, we haven’t had many iterations of Robin hit the big screen. With three popular iterations of Robin preceding Damian Wayne, it’s now his time to shine. As noted, James Gunn calls Damian his favorite version of Robin and is excited to explore the father-and-son dynamic between the two. This book is Damian’s second appearance (though many like to call it his first FULL appearance), first cover appearance, and first appearance in a Robin costume (note, he did not become Robin in this issue). We tracked 71 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 125%, with a high sale of $224.83 for a CGC 9.8.

#13 BATMAN BATTLE FOR THE COWL #3 COVER B VARIANT | DC | 2009
Another Damian comic on our list is his first official appearance as Robin. While he does not appear on any of the covers, collectors tend to favor the Cover B of this issue. We tracked 10 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 526%, with a high sale of $30 for a raw copy.

#14 BATMAN AND ROBIN #1 | DC | 2009
Many initially purchased this series, thinking it was the Grant Morrison inspiration being used for DC’s BRAVE & BOLD film announced on the Chapter 1 slate. However, this series features Dick Grayson as Batman and Damian as Robin. Gunn notes that his DCU story is about Bruce Wayne/Batman and Damian, pulled from Grant Morrison’s iconic Batman run from issues #655 to #683. In this Batman and Robin series, fans grew to love Damian as his more serious demeanor flipped the dynamic with a less intense Batman in Dick Grayson. We tracked 37 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 128%, with a high sale of $20 for a raw copy.

#15 BATMAN #655 KUBERT (1:10) | DC | 2006
Collectors are going crazy for Damian Wayne! They’ll even settle for two beady little eyes peeking from the shadows. Many websites note this book as Damian’s first full appearance. However, since he only appears in a few panels, one of his eyes and two silhouettes, it gets the designation of “cameo.” Still, based on a large number of sales and high value, this book is gaining the most traction! We tracked 27 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 172%, with a high sale of $589.95 for a CGC 9.8.

#16 BATMAN #666 | DC | 2007
This book is a key in two different cinematic universes. The first key in this book is Damian Wayne, yet again. This issue is the first appearance of Damian as Batman. His character is set to be introduced in the new DCU, and perhaps it is not too much of a stretch that he eventually will take on the Batman role. The second key in this book is speculation on Pattinson’s The Batman. Rumors have been floating around that the next villain may be the sadistic Professor Pyg, who first cameos in this issue. We tracked 37 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 122% with a high sale of $300 for a CGC 9.8

#17 SEVEN SOLDIERS: FRANKENSTEIN #3 | DC | 2006
Like Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein appeared in various other ways before this issue. However, James Gunn’s version of “The Bride” resembles this Seven Soldiers version, who first appeared in this issue. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 261%, with a high sale of $19.95 for a raw copy. Find on eBay | Find on MCS

#18 CREATURE COMMANDOS #1 | DC | 2000
This is the first solo series and modern team for the Creature Commandos. It also features the first appearance of Captain Lucius Hunter, Aten the Mummy, and Bogman. As noted with Weird War Tales #93, none of these characters were shown in the preview image Gunn shared of the new DCU Creature Commandos (though, again, that doesn’t mean they won’t appear). We tracked 32 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 108%, with a high sale of $54.95 for a raw copy.

#19 CRIMINAL #1 | MARVEL/ICON | 2006
It is DC takeover week, and this entire list has been influenced by the Chapter 1 slate announcement by James Gunn. However, among all the DC-ness, one book stands aloneā€¦ CRIMINAL. The Criminal series is a story that’s all about family (cure the Vin Diesel meme). Brubaker is set as a showrunner on the newly optioned project, set to be a show debuting on Amazon. We’ll see how well this family of crime, murder, and deceit does on the streaming service! We tracked 21 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 145%, with a high sale of $39.99 for a 9.0 raw copy and a current NM FMV of $29.

#20 STORMWATCH #37 | IMAGE | 1996
Back to DC news for our final entry. The Authority was one of the properties announced for the James Gunn treatment in the new DCU. Many of those books are found in the top ten. However, this book is making our list because this is the first appearance of Jenny Sparks, a powerful entity that leads the first roster of The Authority. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 184%, with a high sale of $90 for a raw copy.
