Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday
What is up Wednesday Warriors. Some pretty good ones if you can find them. Check out what is on tap.
New #1’s
Barnstormers #1 – New Scott Snyder series. A high-flying, WW1 adventure story that’s an intimate portrait of love and war—and a meditation on the dangerous level of trust required in both romance and aviation.
Captain Marvel Dark Tempest #1 – A slinky new cosmic threat comes for Earth’s Mightiest, and they know just who to recruit to really wreck Carol’s world – a surprise legacy villain! Some really great covers on this issue.
Delphinium #1 – An astronaut falls into the world of Delphinium after a freak accident on their satellite. Eerily similar to Earth, Delphinium has oxygen, plants and insect life but things are just off and continue to go wrong. Part 1 in a 2 part mini series- Delphinium is 28 pages of perfectly trippy sci-fi you’ve grown to love from Pat. Only 500 available, subject to allocation.
Hard Case Crime Heat Seeker A Gun Honey Series #1 – Gun Honey pretty much rocked, this series focuses on Heat Seeker, from the Gun Honey series.
Pink Elephant #1 – An 80s slasher, lysergic, weird, indie, lynch-esque story. A group of teens on a road trip meet a creepy old woman at a gas station. A brief back and forth conversation with her leads to a night of acid trips, teen hijinks, and a giant killer with an elephant head. Things are about to get weird.
Prometheus In Chains #1 – The third nightmare from Rich Davis (Cult of Dracula). Professors Victor & Elizabeth Frankenstein have joined the Manhattan Project after fleeing Nazi Germany. When Elizabeth passes away from cancer caused by radiation exposure Victor spirals into the deepest depths of depression. Haunted by guilt, grief and regret, a new kind of monster comes to life.
Under The Influence #1 – Modern social commentary. A teenage sociopath, Paul Kozac, has accidentally created an internet cult called The Hot Dog Party. When a prank turns deadly, the F.B.I. sends in an undercover agent, Cara Cole, to investigate and infiltrate their ranks. Now Cara battles against real stakes, fake news, and memes in a character-driven story about power structures and the communities you build. This is a story about “Click to follow” cultism during the age of social media
Weird Work #1 – Love Shakey Kanes pop art style.
Notable Reprints
My Greatest Adventure #80 Facsimile Edition – First appearance of Doom Patrol gets the facsimile treatment.
One to Watch
Edge Of Spider-Verse #4 – Dream Spider returns for her first solo story.
For the Cover
Captain America #750 Carmen Carnero Design Variant – Well, more than just the cover as Sharon Carter takes on a new costume. Pretty bad ass at that. Check Mycomicshop.com as well.
Variant of the Week
Extreme Venomverse #4 Takashi Okazaki Variant – Hands down winner. Selling in the $200 range on eBay. Grab one cheap and flip if you can.
Pick of the Week
Spider-Man #10 – The community is still full bore on Spider-Boy. We see more of his powers this issue. Worth a grab. Also on Mycomicshop.com
I don’t think my comic shop is posting books tonight, being a holiday and all.
I think extreme venomverse #4 cover A has more potential to be a hot plus long term than Spider-Man #10. If the 1:25 is that hot, then cover A (also has Necroko on the cover) can’t be far behind.
Slot is just leading us along by a thin piece of thread with little tiny nuggets until the new series starts. Not something that’d push SM10 much above cover price. Character isn’t even on the cover….wait for the 2nd print on this one, imo.
My greatest adventure 80 Also has a foil variant.
