Hey there CHU Nation! Once again I’m slacking a bit and getting this to press a day later than I’d like to. Nothing particularly stands out this week for speculation, but there are some fun covers and reads. So let’s not waste any more time and dive right in!
To Homage, or Not to Homage…
There are a few books out his month by artists that either forgot they did a very similar cover before, or “borrowed” from their prior work. Or it’s a flat out copy job.
Amazing Spider-Man #36 (John Romita Jr/Sr Variant)
Not only is this a cool cover, ASM is actually a good read again, with Spider-man turned into a hunter goblin!
Where have you seen this cover before? Try Amazing Spider-Man 250!
Batman the Brave and the Bold #6 (Christian Ward Variant)
Don’t get me wrong, this cover is pretty cool. But the first thing I thought of when I saw it was another cool Ward cover (Thanos 16)…maybe not exactly an homage to his prior work, but the resemblance is uncanny.
Alpha Flight #3 (of 5) (Carlos Gomez Homage Variant)
This one calls itself an homage, so no question here. Alpha Flight #6 of the original series. This solid red background will be eye catching. The cover and solicitation also eludes to this book being an origin issue for Nemesis.
Al Capone Vampire #1 (Cover B – Homage)
This one is for @anthony. If you’re into pre-code horror, you know what this cover is an homage to.
The next few issues in the series look to have homage variants as well, hopefully they stick with pre-code horror.
Trick or Comics
The DC Trick or Treat variant covers by Zullo are back again (why does TFAW insist on calling these “Treat or Treat”). Not my cup of tea, but if anyone is putting the set together here they are.
Batman Superman Worlds Finest #20 (Trick or Treat Variant)
Nightwing #107 (Trick or Treat Variant)
Titans #4 (Trick or Treat Variant)
Wonder Woman #2 (Trick or Treat Variant)
Foiled Again
Batman #608 (Batman Day Foil Variant – Corrected)
So, you may have heard the recent Batman Day 608 foil had some error in it (pages swapped?). So retailers were allowed to send back the first print (haha, yeah right) and can order copies of the 2nd printing. This “reprint” (?) will have a black DC logo.
Superman #7 (Jim Lee Icons Series Foil Variant)
And because there is a foil facsimile of Jim Lee’s famous Batman 608, why not put out a book that includes a variant foil of Superman 204 cover? These books will make a nice set. It’s a milestone issue as well…(issue 850, legacy numbering I assume).
Jay Garrick the Flash #1 (of 6) (Corona Golden Age Foil Variant)
A limited series about Jay and his daughter. If you’re thinking of grabbing this book, perhaps grab the foil variant.
Batman Superman Worlds Finest #20 ( Magog Helmet Embossed Foil Variant)
Wow, there are a lot of foils this week, and I’m not even hitting the Indy’s. Anyway, this one is actually a “foil embossed” cover, which I believe only Magog’s helmet will be foil. The picture above is pretty, lame, but I don’t think that it’ll have this black background. Originally when this was up for FOC the first time, the cover looked much better, and I think this is what we’ll really get.
Also, this is a Kingdom Come story, so old man Supes and Cranky Old Batman will be featured. Which is usually pretty fun to see the grumpy old men go at it.
Star Wars Insider #222 (Foil Variant)
One more honorable mention before we leave the sea of foils. Star Wars insider issue 222 has a foil variant featuring Grogu in his favorite ride, IG-12!
Now just get the action figure out in stores, already!
