Dirty D’s F.O.C. (9/15/24)

Hello CHU Nation!!! We’re a week away from Fall officially starting. Baltimore and NYCC are around the bend. And we’re getting Knull in Venom The Last Dance, which got some old spec moving again this past week. Exciting stuff.

Can’t say this FOC is as exciting, but I’ve got a surprise or two in store. So you might want to stick around until the end to see what that could be…

COVERS

Every week there are some good covers…but even the best artists seem to be pumping out the same old stuff. So this week I’m giving Cover-Of-The-Week honors to a photo variant. It does provide some back story to the recent movie. (Bonus!).

Alien: Romulus presents an all-new story revealing secrets of the film’s legendary antagonists! How did Xenomorphs find Rain, Andy and their scavenger crew? Familiar faces lurk in the shadows; and this issue shines light on them all!

Another cover pic with potentially a good read for transformers fans. Spoiler covers are fun, but this book will also be diving into fan fave Starscreams origins. Just in time for Transformer’s One!

Cover A is also cool, if spoilers are not your thing.

After the stunning events of his battle with the Decepticons, Starscream has been left for dead.
Now the secret to surviving the future may be revisiting his shocking past…

 NOTABLE REPRINTS

One of the more popular Neal Adams covers, first Reaper. In time for Halloween! One has to wonder can an issue 227 foil be far away? (What are you waiting for, DC? Get it done!)

I have the original (which is not terribly expensive) so going for the foil edition here!

Alien vs Avengers #1 (2nd Printing)

The Brooks cover for the first print took off. But this one features face hugger Miles. There is a retailer incentive cover, but it’s pretty lame. With a $7.99 price tag and 1st print copies still sitting on the shelf, I can’t imagine this will be heavily ordered….

The Jason Howard character spotlight covers are back! I missed these. This month it’s Astrotrain and Ultra Magnus!

FIRST ISSUES

New ongoing series restructuring Batman’s origins for the modern age, similar to Marvel’s Ultimates series books.

This book has seen a lot of hype. A lot of covers, and not a first appearance. So grab a copy for the story.

New limited series. With the whole Vampire thing being done to death, it’s time to transition to Batman vs. werewolves!

Each regular cover in the series will be glow-in-the-dark cover as well.

OTHER NOTABLES

A NEW HERO RISES!

Possible first appearance.

Action Comics is back to being published weekly!

INDEPENDENT SPOTLIGHT

When Foz, the frontwoman of indie band Darkside, inherits her father’s estate, it comes with a guitar she half-remembers from her childhood. The guitar speaks to her, promising fame and success. Soon, it delivers. But when Darkside’s equipment is stolen at a massive music venue, just before they’re set to take the stage with Def Leppard, Foz goes on the warpath to get it back. A knuckle-dusting rampage ensues, and the guitar’s true history is revealed.

Written by Phil Collen of Def Leppard and Eliot Rahal (Bleed Them Dry) with art by Alex Schlitz and Fabi Marques. Def Leppard is a fav band from my youth. So hitting a little nostalgia here and I’ll give it a shot for that reason… It helps the cover art for this book reminds you of their album covers. Being a #0 is a little interesting as well (why not just call it #1?).

For the most die hard fans for $100 you can get a limited edition autographed by Mr. Collen himself!

PICK OF THE WEEK

Are you shocked? Yes, it’s not a comic book, but it is a cool book for references of comic characters in Lego form! It doesn’t hurt that it comes with a cool Sam Wilson as Captain America exclusive as a nice bonus. Might be worth the price of the book alone.

DREK OF THE WEEK

What’s it like playing against your brother in the Super Bowl? Only Travis and Jason Kelce can answer that question! Read all about what these NFL superstar brothers enjoy doing—on and off the football field—in this inspiring Little Golden Book Biography.

What? Really?! What kid asked for this??

Maybe Swift will make a cameo Appearance …:man_shrugging:

Parting Thoughts.

That’s it for this week. Not the best for spec but some fun covers and reads coming out way. Have a great weekend everyone!
