Dirty D’s F.O.C. (12/8/24)

Hey CHU! Dirty D’s back with another FOC list! What’s crazy is how many Indy’s made this list this week versus the big 2. Check it out!

COVERS

If the name Mark Spears isn’t familiar to you by now, you’ve been living under a rock…or just not into modern comics lately. Spears draws some drippin monsters (and I’m not just referring to the blood). The covers are what catch most people’s eyes, but you should flip through the books as well. The guy has talent. And that means his art is going to start showing up everywhere.

Issue 3 of his hit series is up on FOC, and no one is sleeping on this book anymore. It’s got 5 open order covers. I’ve highlighted my favorite, but below are the links to the rest since they’re all pretty good. Expect big print runs going forward. (Releases Jan 29)

Mark Spears Monsters #3 (Cover A – Frankenstein)

Mark Spears Monsters #3 (Cover C – Ilsa)

Mark Spears Monsters #3 (Cover D – Dracula Homage)

Mark Spears Monsters #3 (Cover E – Witch Homage)

Geiger with the homage to Action Comics 1 this month. Junkyard Joe returns…(only to get smashed by a bus, apparently). Releases Jan 8th.

REPRINTS

Are you getting the feeling many of these first 3 issues are going to see several reprints? (Releases Jan 22)

Looks like we’re getting the full Hush run in foil facsimiles. Similar the Crisis 1-12. Not sure this series warrants a facsimile for every book. First appearance of Tom Elliot. (Releases Jan 15)

Speaking of which. Crisis issue 10, in all its foilery. (Releases Jan 15)

Here’s an interesting one. From the description this is a reprint of Marvel Super Special 24. So not new artwork or script. But it’s offered in this hardcover or a soft cover version. Hard to pass up the $10 hard cover. Note that this doesn’t release until March 5th. So don’t bundle this with other books on FOC this week.

NUMBER ONES

The Bad Batch are back for their first miniseries, set in the clone wars. (Releases Feb 5)

This anthology issue collects five tales of Republic bravery and Nihil treachery from across the galaxy! Featuring Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh, Jedi Younglings Jon, Bree, and Toko, Churo the Hutt, the sly Nihil Driggit, and the sinister Baron Boolan as they navigate the perils of the impending Battle of Eriadu!

I believe this is the first appearance of Churo the Hutt. Others have appeared in other comics. (Releases Jan 22).

This one’s for the kids. My favorite part of this movie is sloths behind the counter at the DMV!!

“Ha……ha……….ha…………………ha……” I also like the Movie poster variant (without the background). Still got about a year for the sequel. (Release Date Jan 8)

Series Premiere. A decade after the Seasons sisters’ beloved parents disappeared, a wicked carnival arrives in town. Within its big tent is a dazzling show led by an eldritch ringleader who offers comers-all a window into their heart’s every desire-provided they each leave a piece of themselves behind… Attendees arrive to enjoy the breathtaking entertainment obscured behind its canvas folds-and they leave distracted by the glint of these cursed mirrors.

Now it’s up to the often-overlooked youngest sister, Spring, to find her missing sisters and put a stop to the Faustian hold the carnival and its cursed mirrors have on its guests. But will she be able to piece her shattered family back together before it’s too late for them all?

(Releases Jan 15)

PICK OF THE WEEK

Mini-Series Premiere . A tale of two rebellious demons who decide to start a revolution in Hell-and the two ordinary, 20-something humans they’re going to manipulate to do it. A cheeky, satirical look at Good and Evil, The Lucky Devils explores Faustian bargains and temptation in a rip-roaring, hilarious new way.

From the duo behind Eight Billion Genies! Will lighting strike twice? Sounds like a fun series regardless. In a week dominated by independents, this one stands out above them all.

That’s it for this week. Stay warm!
