Comics Picks of the week for delivery 3/11/15

Where is this year going? Halfway through March already, the summer comic season will be upon us shortly.
Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot of heating up. Here are our picks for delivery 3/11/15:
I am thrilled with this week, lots of new books, lots of returning favorites.
The One with the Walking and the Dead
The Walking Dead #138- I have a hunch the whisperers could make an early appearance on TV. The “W’s” carved on the heads of the walkers on recent episodes could signify the whisperers. The TV show does jump around a bit and we seem to be on issue 72 right now. Not sure if the show will go “5 years later” so the whisperers could be a surprise early. Speaking of which, this one is called face to face, looks like some interaction with the new group of baddies. If the whisperers do show up on the show, would love to see an episode directed by Rob Zombie, as they look like something out of his movies.
The New #1’s
Surface #1– Billed as what would happen if Moebius and District 9 had a baby? Sold
Southern Cross #1 Inspired by classic mysteries and weird fiction, SOUTHERN CROSS is a crucible of creeping anxiety and fear. Again, Sold
Batman Arkham Knight #1 Features the introduction of the video game villain.
Spawn Resurrection #1 Sets Al Simmons up on the new status quo.
The return of the heat
Spider-Gwen #2 – No denying this is a hot book, sold out and selling out online. Yes there will be a lot of variants, for quite some time.
The pick of the week
Hellbreak #1– Cullen Bunn. New Series. $1 first issue. Now people have said $1 intro issues never do a thing. Just ask people who have sold The Strain #1 and iZombie #1
That is it for us, let us know what you are spec-ing on.

  1. The W is for Wolves, I’m pretty sure. They’ve past graffiti before that’s said things like “Wolves are not far” as they’ve moved through VA. Plus, the Whisperers in the comic travel with the zombies as zombies, not chop them up and carve Ws in their heads. More likely a renaming of the Saviors IMHO.

  2. I think it’s leading up to Negan for sure but not sure what to think of the W on zombie foreheads. I think it’s some type of branding from a group.. like they’re herding walkers and these are the ones that got free, etc. If it is part of the Whisperers, grab extra copies of #130 then..

    1. I’ve already got one 1:25 Arkham variant. Will probably get another. Last game in the series, so this book has potential. Also like the cover.
