Dirty D’s F.O.C. 10/5/25

Oh boy, New York Comic Convention week is upon us! Just a few more days and the insanity begins! And I’m seeing some blind bags…IT BEGINS!!!

But before all that craziness…we have some books on F.O.C. that may warrant some attention.

COVERS

Oh, come on! They’re going after Harold and his Purple Crayon…? They got me this time.

There is a 1:50 virgin variant, but without the trade dress it really loses it’s appeal. Also, some potential option news this week about the first series.

Nothing else grabbed my attention, so this is my Cover of the Week!

REPRINTS

Love me some Jason Howard Transformer covers…

Not as much of a key as it used to be. But here’s your chance to get this foil-ized.

ONE AND DONE

Some of the biggest names in comics take a turn in the Absolute Universe! Daniel Warren Johnson and James Harren tell tales from Absolute Batman’s early days! How did Bruce acquire his batmobile? And what was it is like for Black Mask’s party animals when Batman first hit the scene?

I’m liking the Batmobile variant for this one.

When her cousin goes missing in Los Angeles, ECHO goes to the City of Angels to find out what happened to her. But what she discovers is a series of disappearances centered around a mysterious wellness cult called Wisteria Meadows. As Echo dives deeper into the mystery, she’ll discover a truth about herself she never imagined. But who is the faceless puppet master behind the cult, and what is their sinister plan?

Celebrating Native American Heritage Month. Echo discovers a new power. Nice Mack cover.

POTENTIAL FIRSTS

Spider-Man takes on a challenge of single combat to save his new crew and finds himself between a rock and a GIANT ALIEN BEAST INTENT ON HIS DEATH! Not only does Spider-Man learn aspects of his quest that he didn’t expect, but his companions learn things about Spider-Man that THEY didn’t expect. Witness the first full appearance of a new major character!

Wow, marvel is now getting into the cameo vs. full appearance game. Anyway, thinking this character may be on this cover…?

NEW SERIES

INCREDIBLE…IMMORTAL…INFERNAL! The evil known as Eldest has literally torn Bruce Banner and the Hulk apart and taken the Hulk’s body as their own. This new, unstoppable Infernal Hulk is ten times the monster that everyone always feared Hulk would be. Their diabolical plan is to plunge the world back into ancient horrors by transforming our heroes into nightmarish beasts! Meanwhile, the indomitable Bruce Banner, though powerless, will stop at nothing to thwart their evil schemes! RATED PARENTAL ADVISORY.

How long before we get the Infernal Iron First…or the Infernal Ghost Rider…Infernal Wolverine…?

INDY SPOTLIGHT

A tale of two totally normal, completely damaged families in a world of corrupt businesses, inept local politicians, bungling criminals, and unfortunate leisurewear. We follow the fortunes of two neighbors on the point of collapse: a Mormon hit man and a gambling-addict lawyer, both intertwined in a real-estate deal gone wrong. Mix in a Mexican beauty queen on the run from her past, two escaped convicts in love, a Wall Street billionaire who has become a cowboy, and a maniac hell-bent on revenge. American culture has become a war about real estate, violence, and snake oil. From the tax avoiders in the manicured wilderness of Wyoming to the thought police of liberal Brooklyn to the confused political and environmental battlegrounds of Florida, one thing is certain: This tragedy is someone else’s fault. A New comic book series from the head writer and creative team of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption!‚Ä¢ A brutal satire that reflects on our current pollical nightmare.

New ongoing series from Dark Horse.

Pecos Bill and the Guns of Oz slingshots the legendary cowboy straight into a twisted, magical version of OZ. You know the story—he lassoed a tornado and vanished. But what happened next? From gunslinging witches to outlaw flying monkeys, this warped Western turns OZ into a wild new frontier where Tall Tales meet fairy tales… with a six-shooter in each hand. Saddle up, let’s get weird. This title is for mature audiences.

I don’t normally spotlight Keenspot, but this one could be interesting for those Oz mythos fanatics.

Parting Thoughts

Nothing really standing out this week. Seems to be the norm. Little light on DC titles too. Oh well, that just means more money to spend on NYCC 2025!! Have a fun week!!
