Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 5/13/15:
Who says 13 is an unlucky number? Lots of good stuff this week.
The Value pick of the Week
Mythic #1– Phil Hester’s new book. AT $1.99, which you can hardly beat the price, it is worth looking at.
Science is a lie, an opiate for the masses. The truth is, magic makes the world go ’round. And when magic breaks, MYTHIC fixes it.
Apache shaman Waterson, Greek immortal Cassandra, and cell phone salesman Nate Jayadarma are the crack field team assigned with keeping the gears of the supernatural world turning, and more importantly, keeping you from ever knowing about it.
The media Juggernaut
Darth Vader #5– No denying how hot Star Wars books are. Darth Vader keeps introducing new characters to the Star Wars universe proper, and since it is under Marvel, and since Marvel is owned by Disney, and since Disney also owns Star Wars, there is always a chance that these characters could appear in some form of media.
Oh, and this is sold out in some online retailers.
The New Image #1
Mantle #1– Ed Brisson’s new book following up on Sheltered (which was optioned).
Robbie never asked for any of this. While drunkenly walking home from a punk show, he’s hit with lightning and wakes to find that he’s been chosen as the new host for The Mantle, a power set of unimaginable scope.
Despite his lack of interest, he’s forced into action. The Plague, a being who has spent 50 years killing every previous host of The Mantle, is already coming for him.
The one that people are talking about
Thor #8– Find out who the female Thor is, unless you already saw the leak we published earlier. Selling out a some online retailers.
The Small Press Gem:
Lantern City #1– A lot of pre-release buzz on this steam-punk series.
The Pick of the Week
Harrow County– I love a good horror story. Plus, add in writer Cullen Bunn is no stranger to having studio types sniff around his work (Sixth Gunn was optioned but it fell through.) And not to mention he has worked on high profile characters such as Deadpool, and you have a reason to pick the book.
That is it for us this week, let us know what you are spec-ing on.
Not a good week on my wallet.. so many of my ongoing pulls and so much new stuff coming out I intend to pick up to check out.
Supposedly, ebay is having a problem where they are throttling traffic as there are server issues so everyone is reporting down sales. Will report on that tonight
Strange, I haven’t seen any issues when I’ve been browsing.
No love for Injection # 1….?
I had to save something for Agent Poyo. Actually I did mention it as part of the releases for Four Color Grails
I saw that. Any new Ellis comic is a must.
Haha, I do the same if I provide my picks to you before seeing yours….
My LCS had the 1:100 variant of Lanternt city for $3.99. Surely can’t be too many of these on the ground!
Um. That sounds like they goofed up. Good for you for the deal!
There’s a 1:100 variant? I thought Boom! does the 1:10 ten year variant and the virgin variants are 1:20?
There is a 1:100 variant for Lantern City # 1. Copies are on Ebay for $40 – $50.
Your right, I bet none of the shops I frequent will have it, most stop at around the 20 mark to get the 1:20 variant.
None of my LCS had the 1:100 variant.
Yeah, who buys 100 copies of Boom! titles? Those would be hard to move if you ask me. You’d have to be a bigger store with multiple stores most likely..
