RUNNERS UP

11: Venom: Lethal Protector Vol.1 #4 | Marvel | May 1993
When Sony announced that Juno Temple would be joining the cast of Venom 3, fans immediately speculated she would be playing Scream. The new trailer did nothing to dispel that communal thought, leading collectors to secure copies of the first appearance of Scream in this issue. We tracked 16 copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 16%, with a high sale of $100 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw FMV of $13.

12: X-Factor Vol.1 #5 | Marvel | June 1986
X-Men ’97 didn’t shy away from setting up future seasons, with Apocalypse likely a big player in future storylines. Of course, the aftermarket began to heat up for the first appearance of Apocalypse, but it can quickly grow out of reach for many collectors. Some have opted to pivot to this book and secure the first cameo appearance of Apocalypse for a lower cost. We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 74%, with a high sale of $26 for NM raw copy and a current NM raw FMV at $313.

13: The New Mutants #98 – Inhyuk Lee – 2024 Facsimile (1:25) | Marvel | May 2024
Facsimile books were a hot-button issue for years but have found their place within the community. It’s an excellent opportunity for collectors to secure books that look like the original without the higher price tag. However, we often get facsimiles with associated variants, and this book is a prime example. With Deadpool and Wolverine right around the corner, it was a great time for the talented Inhyuk Lee to deliver a spectacular 1:25 ratio featuring the Mutant of the Hour front and center. We tracked six copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 12%, with a high sale of $58 for an NM raw copy and a current NM raw FMV at $52.

14: Falling in Love on the Path to Hell #1 – Klaus Janson (1:20) | Image | June 2024
This book was far from many collectors’ radars until reviews started hitting online. The art has been heavily praised right alongside the story. This caused collectors to take a second look, with some opting to secure the only variant readily available at launch at the LCS. We tracked nice copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 62%, with a high sale of $20 for an NM raw copy and a current NM raw FMV of $16.

15: X-Factor Vol.1 #6 | Marvel | July 1986
A few years ago, this book was all the rage in the months leading up to X-Men: Apocalypse. The movie was not received very well, which caused the book to tumble and lay low for a while. But, with the groundwork X-Men ’97 laid toward the end of season one, collectors began picking up copies of the first appearance of Apocalypse once again. Pricing has been all over the map as suitors continue to gauge the market but have been mainly on the upswing. We tracked 24 copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 32%, with a high sale of $96 for CGC 9.6 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $39.

16: X-Men ’97 #1 – Todd Nauck – Regular | Marvel | March 2024
X-Men ’97 was uncanny for the aftermarket! It ignited much discussion, drove sales, launched careers, and has genuinely been well-loved. Collectors wouldn’t miss an opportunity to secure the comic adaptation of the series until many did. Some had no idea it existed; many didn’t have the option to watch the series week after week and instead could only hop on toward the end, or once it all aired. That caused a lot to miss out when this book dropped, instead being forced to browse the aftermarket for a copy. We tracked 27 copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 19%, with a high sale of $21 for an NM raw copy and a current NM raw FMV at $17.

17: Spawn #1 – Todd McFarlane – Regular | Image | May 1992
It’s been a few weeks since the aftermarket king made an appearance, and he was about due. There are always copies of this book changing hands, and there always will be. Movie news and updates or not, Spawn is steadily lurking! We tracked 25 copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 72%, with a high sale of $130 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $33.

18: X-Men Vol.1 #4 | Marvel | January 1992
With the release of X-Men ’97 episode 8, fans caught a brief glimpse of fan favorite Omega Red. After a quiet period, the aftermarket saw a resurgence in sales for his first appearance, mostly because of speculation. The community doesn’t know if he will play a prominent role or not in the future, but there’s a lot of hope. X-Men 97′ hasn’t done anything “just because,” which has caused many collectors to put stock in a future appearance, causing a spike in aftermarket traffic. We tracked 15 copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 18%, with a high sale of $66 for a CGC 9.6 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $24.

19: Doom #1 – Adi Granov | Marvel | May 2024
This new Dr. Doom one-shot has been hot for a few weeks now, for good reason. We know we’re getting a Fantastic Four movie. He’s a prime villain to take on the first family/ the rest of the MCU. We know Marvel’s track record with releases and coinciding silver/big-screen appearances. Still, nothing is confirmed, but an incredible cover, a touching tribute to rapper MF Doom, and the implication caused this book to shake the market hard! We tracked 23 copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 5%, with a high sale of $25 for an NM raw copy and a current NM raw FMV at $21.

20: Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider #1 – Jenny Frison – Virgin (1:100) | Marvel | May 2024
New runs, new variants, and this book had 24 of them! The hottest of the bunch has been this 1:100 from Jenny Frison, whose popularity has continued to swell over the years. If she’s attached to a cover, it typically does well on the aftermarket. Combined with a character who has exploded in popularity over the last decade, you have a hot book! We tracked nine copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 2%, with a high sale of $190 for an NM raw copy and a current NM raw FMV at $145.
