Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shops. Each week we pick the ones we think are going to heat up. Here are this weeks picks of the week.
1. Outliers #1 – This small press book has been talked about a lot on comicsheatingup.net and was brought to our attention by Terry Hoknes. It is already selling for up to $14.99 on eBay. It officially hits stores this week. Very small print run, and buzz on it. Can be ordered from TFAW.com for $4.50 and on Amazon for $4.93
2. Kiss Kids #1- Fun little all ages book which features the rock band Kiss. Gene Simmons is the king on merchandising and has a legion of Kiss Army followers. Might pick up the cross over buyers. on TFAW for less than cover
3. Sacrifice Hard Cover- I am giving this special mention because of how much I loved the Sam Humphries’ self published series! Available at TFAW for $15.99 “What happens when a troubled youth is plucked from modern society and thrust though time and space on a psychedelic journey into the heart of the Aztec civilization-one of the greatest and most bloodthirsty times in human history?”

The first Dexter comic from Marvel already has a little steam behind it, but I think with the release of #2 tomorrow we’ll see it start heating up.
A LITTLE STEAM is correct. Dexter #1 priced at $4.99. Selling on ebay for $5 and some change. Variants are only buy it now for ridiculous prices not worth it for an average book. Story is kinda weak.
agreed the story is weak. I made out well with #1 variants though.

Really? Day men dropped dramatically from 26 bucks to 6 in a week
and is now trading at $12-$16 again.
Can’t find the Outliers anywhere. Looked at two comics shops and nothing. What a shame. I did pick up both Kiss Kids covers though.
OUTLIERS #1 Was hard to find even over here in Boston,MA But I was lucky, I got three copies of it. I have to drive to a few places though.
I have been to two and only found 1 so far.
I cannot believe how fast Amazon sold out of them…. Things from Another World sold out even quicker. Havent seen them online anywhere else (besides ebay)

Nope.
I just ordered Outliers from Midtown, all the copies on eBay are for $24 or higher and none of my local shops had any copies. One said they were ordering more but I didn’t want to take any chances if they don’t get any. I ordered 3 on Midtown at $4.25 each, hope their online inventory is correct and none come with creased edges (which is sometimes the norm every time I order from them).
I just took a chance and ordered one from Abebooks.com. Similar to amazon.com but just books praying it comes in decent shape. Just sold my copy privately for $30 bucks to a reader.
Still no report on the print run for The Outliers #1?

it’s a website. With retail stores 3 in oregon, one in southern california. They have a great service and know how to package comics for shipping. I use them to order my comics on a monthly basis. (to keep shipping costs down) I guess you can have it shipped to the store for free also and pick it up, but im lazy.

TFAW.com is an online retailer like midtowncomics.com. As an online retailer, it conveniently allows collectors to better manage large pull lists and buy in bulk with a higher probability of receiving the comics shipped (with bag and boards) in high NM condition. Most of the books I receive haven’t had any issues. It also allows you to save 15% on all books and usually 35% if you place advance orders. Shipping is free if your order is high enough and there are shipping options.
With that said, there still many advantages of buying in store, which is why most of us probably do both (including myself). It’s also a good way to support your local comic book store. The online retailers don’t always carry variants, exclusives, and hunting for comics is part of the fun. Plus, it’s a great feeling knowing when you find a 9.8 candidate in your hands, as opposed to waiting to receive a book that falls flat at 9.6. It’s also fun to raid the discount dollar bins and finding hidden gems.
I can’t always make it in the store every wednesday, so I manage my stuff online and usually hit up the store on the weekends if there’s something I missed or a book that needs to replaced for a higher grade (rare). Typically I’ll go because news hit that a series was optioned and I’m quick to buy multiple copies. Retailers sometimes limit 1 per customer online, so you do what you gotta do.
Here’s a question: What do you think is the best? TFAW, Midtown, DCBS?

Buy what you like. I read mostly horror. So that is what I buy. I sell what other people like. That is how I pay for my comics.

Any thoughts on ‘Secret’ by Hickman/Bodenheim heating up?
Secret was a great book when it first came out Hickman kind of forgot about it though and I do not see it picking up any. It’s been forever since the last issue came out and when there is that big of a gap interest dies off.
@comicflipper yes I did read the first series of The Strain, that is what brought me to pick up the strain the fall. I read Watson & Holmes last night. I still haven’t read the outliers #1 yet.

I enjoyed Watson & Holmes. It was a good read. I just Picked up My Little Pony #9 Larry’s Variant. That issue is going for a few bucks right now.
I did really well with the My Little Pony Variants. People can laugh about it but I have sold a ton of MLP variants.

Nice. Watson & Holmes is solid, definitely something that could heat up again. I have several and its variants. It’s going above cover now, but I think it’ll heat up more later.

Yeah, I really enjoyed #1. I picked up #2 but haven’t read it yet.
