Pretty Deadly preview ran in 8/21/13 Image comic

One of the new Image comics that is getting a lot of buzz Pre-release is ‘Pretty Deadly’ #1 by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Rios. If this hits as big as the buzz suggests, and if past performance is any indication, people will be looking for the “first appearance.”

Well, it seems a three page preview ran in this past weeks ‘Chin Music’ number 2 by Steve Mills and Tony Harris. This book, while an interesting read, is not heavily picked up. Furthermore, second issues usually do not perform as well as the first issues of a series and the order levels often drop off. This might be worth dropping $2.69 for the first appearance of Pretty Deadly.

Previously books like Peter Panzerfaust, Walking Dead, Chew, and others that were previewed in other books caused those books to see a rise in value. While past performance does not guarantee future results, it is worth keeping in mind if this series does shoot up in value.

  1. Good to know…thanks. I actually preordered more than a few copies of Pretty Deadly #1 a few weeks ago on DCBS with a crazy discount (50% I believe). Looks likes it’s going to be a good book. Haven’t opened my copy of Chin Music #2 yet…looking forward to it.

  2. Great post guys. I’ve been on holiday in Portugal (I know, I know), and I missed the head’s up on THE OUTLIERS #1 (very very miffed about that)! Oh well, just have to bite the proverbial ‘cash’ bullet and get a few copies at premium….arrgh!

Anyway, I’m not missing this nugget: PRETTY DEADLY #1! The preview’s are awesome, and Comic Vine’s write up on August 12 2013 certainly does this book justice:

Looks like the real deal here folks! I’ve got my 20 copies of #1 pre-ordered, and a few copies of Chin Music #2 (Preview / 1st Appearance) as well!

I’m not that big on the preview issues of comics, as they don’t seem to hold their value very well. Case in point: The ‘Numerous’ Peter Panzerfaust preview issues:
Green Wake #7, Morning Glories #14, Mondo #7 and Bomb Queen Vol 7, #2….Actually, Mondo is an oversized book, and it is doing fairly well on the secondary market…(I have multiple copies of each of them, but it just feels like I’m holding onto dud material…don’t know)

Anyway, good luck on this grab! If anyone has Outliers for a decent price, let me know!

    1. Good to know. Anyone know what the variants look like on this? I haven’t pre-ordered this yet and don’t see it as an option online yet. May have to go into the store for this one.

      1. Yea, I’m not sure about the Variants on this…shoot they may change the cover before release!

I Just pre-ordered another 10 copies of this, however (30 so far on pre-order). I’m really going all out on this title…I THINK THIS ONE WILL BE ‘WALKING DEAD’ISH’! Certainly Peter Panzerfaust fever!

Woo-Hoo! Sorry, I just got an email from one of my UK supplier’s, he can get me 3 copies of: OUTLIERS #1 for 2.95 GBP, from Diamond UK (THEY ONLY HAD 3 LEFT)…I just paid him now…Wow, that was a close one…I almost missed out on this comic. Funny enough, I saw where this comic got it’s funding a couple of years ago on Kickstarter. Very interesting, as I went back and looked at some of the stuff you could have gotten if you ‘sponsored’ it back then (a couple of years ago). Nice signed copies and whatnot. So, that’s what I’m doing now FOR ANYONE WHO CARES, I’m keeping my eye on more of the Comic related Kickstarter projects, and pledging a couple of bucks for a few that look interesting! You get pretty nifty stuff, so who knows. There was so REALLY limited edition stuff on offer regarding the OUTLIERS comic back then!
YOU WANT SPECULATION….THERE YOU GO FOLKS!!!!!!!

  3. Oh yea, Watson and Holmes was once a Kickstarter project as well! All the goodies we could have had (signed, limited edition stuff)!

    Just another thought!

    1. Congrats on the find. UK Supplier? Forbidden Planet? Wow, 30 copies? I’d love to see this blow up in success. You will be a self made king.

  4. That sounds like a fairly large run, like a jupiter’s legacy or east of west. This doesn’t mean it won’t be successful of course, but Peter Panzerfaust had a significant lower print, as did some of the others that flip for a substantial amount of profits, or so it seems. Any word on the value of East of West #1 Forbidden Planet variants? I was able to find 2x of these along with the regulars and ghost variants. Great comic, but still waiting for values to rise (hoping).
