Comic books picks of the week for delivery 8/28/13

Each week hundreds of new books come out, and each week we sort through them to tell you what we like, what we think may have some heat behind it, or what already has some heat behind it.

1. Itty Bitty Hellboy #1– It’s an all ages Hellboy. Hellboy has a huge following. Many stores do not order heavy on all ages books so this one might be something the Hellboy and Mignola fans want but don’t find in their shops.

2. Federal Bureau of Physics #2 – Haven’t heard of this Vertigo book? It’s because the first issues was the smash hit called Collider. They had to change the name due to another book already published with the same name. Some retailers are sloppy with the orders and may not pick up on it. Some readers may not notice the name change and may miss out.

3. Run For Your Lives #1 – New zombie book based off he “Run For Your Lives” zombie events. From what I am hearing this little gem has a low print run and is really gory and fun.

4. Injustice Gods Among Us #8 – This has been a huge hit for DC and every issue sells out. Early issues go for decent money.

Bonus #5 100 Penny Press Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 – It’s turtles, for a buck. I love cheap reads.

  1. I had originally put on my calender that Wild Blue Yonder #3 came out today, but now I don’t see it listed anywhere. Did I just put down the wrong date, or did it get changed?

    1. It was originally set for the 28th but got pushed back apparently. Happens all the time, especially with Image.. drives me nuts when they can’t meet their initial release date!

  2. that’s funny…I’ve actually done one of the Run For Your Lives Zombie runs and have one coming up next month. Hopefully its not just another “zombie book”

    1. Speaking of zombie books…why aren’t any of the Fubar books in demand? The print run on these is very low..i know at least one of them is below 1000. The concept seems cool (zombies in different historical settings)…is the book done badly (art/writing)?

      1. I picked up the FCBD Fubar book because it looked really interesting. But I still haven’t read it. It would be nice to know.

  3. Anyone with some early speulation on ‘God is Dead’ which drops next week (Sept. 4th) I just have a feeling that is going to pick up some steam…thoughts?

    1. I’m with you Arcanum…I ordered all the covers and incentives and I suspect that it will be very similiar to Uber. I think it’ll sell out upon release. However, like Uber..Avatar will have multiple re-releases and covers, so I think (like uber) it’ll heat up and cool down. I’m looking forward to this book and avatar as well. I really think Uber can go somewhere as each issue seems to be building up to something better.

      1. Also…since Avatar is owned by Bleedingcool, you can bet that the site will heavily promote “God is Dead”, which will create some serious buzz. So yes, I’d think it’s going to heat up…but eventaully cool down. I’d be ready to sell this book within the first 48 hours. However…my 2 cents.

  4. I do not know. Comicflipper and Hoknes may know. I feel like Avatar initially has a small print run…but then they start releasing more covers. Example: Uber #1 is still being printed with new covers. Cover 1a, 1b, 1c – 1k!? But the original 4 covers were relatively small, so I’m anticipating “God is Dead” will be the same followed by the usual dynamite/avatar alphabetical enhanced/signed/exclusive/variant cover saturation.

    1. The books usually have a print run of about 10k to 13k initially. But then more covers are released when they sell out. Avatar has only had one big hit so far but with Hickman on this book it could take off. Them again with Hickman in this book the print run could be higher.
