The Other Dead #1 Sells out, plus print run

As of yesterday, The Other Dead #1 has officially sold out. This is IDW’s zombie animal book, that was a really good read. We had spotlighted this book previously as there were a couple of things of interest with it. First, there was the Obama Variant cover, holding guns (one of which I am sure would be considered an assault weapon.) Two, it was supposed to come out on September 11th, but customs held it to “spray for moths.” Three, Kevin Eastman of ‘Teen Age Mutant Ninja Turtles’ fame did a subscription variant cover featuring, of all things, turtles.

Well the book has sold out. The first print had a print run of 10,500 covers. The regular cover was 6,700 copies and the variant undead turtles cover had a print run of 3,800 covers. The Obama covers print run was not disclosed, but I believe it was a 1 in 10 making about 1050 copies available, it is doing quite well on the secondary market too.

  1. I wasn’t able to find an Obama variant but I did get two regular covers and one of the Eastman covers.

I thought the artwork was cool but the story was not as interesting as I intended.

I think the current series “The Final Plague” story is way more interesting and I believe it’s print run is very small, so small it doesn’t even show up on http://www.comichron.com/monthlycomicssales.html monthly sales listings.

  2. I’ve visited all my LCS’s and I was able to pick up all variants excluding the Obama cover. All last copies in the shop that I had to hunt for. For the Obama variant I will have to bite the bullet and get it off of E-bay…. But it is my favorite so far!

I agree with you Drew, I’m loving the cover artwork. A zombie panda bear!?!? Doesn’t really get any better than that! But the story hasn’t pulled me in yet. I hope it picks up in issue 3. Also taking your recommendation on “The Final Plague”. I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about it.
