We have all probably seen the goofy cover to the New Amazing Spider-man #1 and seen the smiling face. Well, NY Daily News broke the story tonight that Peter Parker will be back after 13 months. The full story can be seen at the New York Daily News site. So the question now is, what type of variants will there be. We saw what the Spider-Man 700 variants did when Dr. Ock took over, now the speculation can begin on what these variants might do.
Just for the record, I am completely off Marvel (except Miracleman)(and DC for that matter except Vertigo), and do sell variants but mostly store and Phantom variants, so this isn’t something I am chasing, but might be worth keeping an eye on.

My comment on Facebook when I first saw this last night was “That cover’s so bad, I want to punch it in the face.” No, really .
Yup. It deserves a punch, not in the face, but right in the throat.

It’s so horrible that it might not even be a real cover at all (but a rather cruel April Fools joke).
My problem with that theory is it was not accompanied by the industry standard tag line “may not be final art” that they do for promos that are not the cover art. I cringe to think what the interior art is going to be. I like Ramos, but his style does not fit a big launch character like Peter Parker
That’s the type of cover I expect on the version I pick up for my kids!
Ramos has his unique style- but it’s way more suited for children’s comics IMO. He and Chris Bachalo are definitely one of the few remaining creators of the “post-Joe Madureira /manga phase” Marvel pushed after the “extreme nineties artists” art style became passe…the fact that he’s endured in high-profile titles, is a testament to his popularity among readers. I personally don’t care for his art…this cover is uninspired. I totally agree.
I like Ramos, Bachalo, and Joe Mad on their own books. There style doesn’t always translate well into big books. I think back to Uncanny X-Men and remember how muddy the style looked and how I didn’t feel it fit a top tier book. Can’t remember which did it.
I loved Joe Mad’s art on X-men like no other artist on any X book ever. I still open them up sometimes and get fond memories. Battle Chasers was great too before Joe lost his mind and decided to stop being the most popular artist in comics to design video games. Bachalo’s run on Uncanny following his made me quit all X-books entirely( until Grant Morrison’s New X-men). Just ugly ugly art with stocky sexless & formless mutants. Ramos can do great work but I think he gets lazy. Some pages will have a great deal of dynamic kinetic action, followed by one where a main character is unidentifiable. I get the comparison between the 3 but I still think Joe Mad is a criminally underrated talent and that Bachalo should have never stopped doing Shade the Changing Man. Ramos on a new Amazing is a bit of a wet fart for such an event book
I’ve seen one variant that looks nice by Jerome Opeña.
The variant by Marcos Martin looks too Jesus for me.
I’ll buy the variant so I don’t have to have to look at that garbage cover. Wish they had a variant that also included different art inside as well… Why Marvel puts this guy on their “Marquee” book and character is baffling. Camuncoli or Stegman are far better.
Because Disney Owns them and they are part of the NWO.
Or, Disney are trying to bring comics BACK TO KIDS! Obviously that’s their business, and really WHO DIDN’T SEE THIS COMING WHEN THE NEWS BROKE THAT ‘DISNEY’ OF ALL FIRMS HAD BOUGHT MARVEL! I thought they (Disney) would incorporate a ton of ‘comic character’ rides, and give out free Amazing Spiderman comics to kids at the gates…blah blah! But noooooo they (Disney) had a more sinister plan in mind…GIVE THE ENTIRE MARVEL UNIVERSE BACK TO THE KIDS, SO THEY (Disney) AND NOT THE LCBS’s CAN REAP THE REWARDS!

Disney: where the kids have been introduced back to comics…AND THEY (Disney) OWN THE ENTIRE NEXT GENERATION OF KIDS BUYING COMICS…MAINLY YOUNG BOYS!
With Disney’s purchase of Pixar in 2006, and now with Marvel under their belt, they (Disney) are firmly planted into the FILM INDUSTRY AS WELL…HAVING MOVIE CONTROL OVER MARVEL’S 5000 CHARACTER LIBRARY!
So, for a measly $4 Billion, Disney bought a Marvel franchise that will make them (Disney), I would hazard a guess AROUND 3/4 OF A TRILLION DOLLARS THROUGH THE LIFETIME OF THE ENTIRE GENERATION OF KIDS WHO ARE FROM 8 YEARS OLD UP (as of 2009 when Disney purchased Marvel)…PROBABLY MORE MONEY THAN THAT ACTUALLY!
THE FIRST IRON MAN FILM MADE $585 MILLION IN BOX OFFICE SALES WORLDWIDE…..
$4 BILLION FOR MARVEL…….TALK ABOUT BUY LOW!!!!!!!!
