Comics picks of the week for delivery 2/16/14

I love Wednesday. I love going into work and waiting for the local shops to open up at 11. I love taking an early lunch and going to the shops. I love picking up the best copies of the new books. Really, it is the whole comic buying experience. Needless to say there are a ton of new books coming out this week worth looking at. So here is this weeks picks of the week for delivery on 2/26/14.
The one you have to pick up:
Black Science #4- Rick Remender’s new book continues to be on fire.
The other Remender book:
Deadly Class #2- First issue was pretty impressive. If Remender’s streak of hit books continues, the second issue is where it is at.
The “we are glad this book is back as it was pretty hot before” one:
Wake #6- The Wake has been a great book. It went on Hiatus while they were prepping the second arc. Plus, it is Scott Snyder and Sean Murphey. Snyder is hot right now.
The Walking Dead issue of the week:
The Walking Dead #122- The Walking Dead is a cultural phenomenon. Robert Kirkman has said that Negan is coming to the AMC show. So this pretty much sums up the fact that ALL OUT WAR will be a storyline on the show. Every new character that comes from the comic has jumped in price. (See the Abraham issue #53 price jump.)
THe Ultra Violent 1:
Revenge #1- formerly Revenger #1 bring the sex and violence to Image with this new series. I read the preview in Elephantmen and it rocks. If this heats up, do not pass up getting the first appearance in the preview in the back of Elephantmen 52
The outside chance:
One Hit Wonder #1- New series drawn by superstar artist ARIEL OLIVETTI. Looking forward to checking this out.
Finally, the really outside chance:
Vandroid #1- Part man Part machine and a van. When Palm Springs Entertainment studios burned to the ground in 1984, the most definitive motion picture of a generation was lost before its time. Thirty years later, the extraordinary talents of Tommy Lee Edwards, Noah Smith, and Dan McDaid unite to resurrect this lost epic. * Complete the Vandroid experience with the remastered soundtrack from Ed Banger Records and the unearthed 1984 movie….
Let us know what you are specking on this week.

  1. Love Black Science. Scott Snyder is likely the only reason I read some DC titles (because he writes them). I liked Deadly Class but it reminded me too much of that Angelina Jolie movie.. Walking Dead is a given and for new comics, I’m looking forward to Revenge.

      1. Well, look at it this way, Kirkman says he definitely has the comics in his head up until issue 200, but he says he’ll keep on going as long as they’re selling with interest. As long as the show stays popular, I see many more fans and only valuable comics in the future.
I buy two copies myself, sometimes 3 if I think there’s a key issue with a new appearance.

      1. I sort of treat Vertigo as it’s on entity really. I love Wake and Trillium. Coffin Hill is good too but it could be dropped if I feel the need to drop a title to keep my current pull/read list manageable. I guess it helps that both Wake and Trillium are limited to around 10 issues total. 🙂

  2. Oh and I find it odd that your local shops open up at 11 on Wednesdays. All the shops in my area open up at 11 daily except Wednesdays, they all open up at 9am. I usual routine involves working a little from home, swing by the comic store before heading into work. 🙂

  3. Oh and after today’s pick ups, I think Pariah is gonna be the sleeper, very good. I didn’t realize it’s Vol 2 as well, probably gonna have to pick up Vol 1 as well, eBay has them for cheap currently.

    1. I really enjoyed Pariah, thanks for the tip about the first volume. Just picked up all four issues on eBay for about $10, shipping included. Even if it doesn’t take off should be a good read.

  4. Negan’s first appearance was issue 100 which sold way too many copies. i do not see his appearing on the show bumping up any of the individual issues. Better bet is to go with first Jesus in 93 or first Ezekiel in 108.

      1. Of course, I like the first Full appearances as well, they should be higher in value in my opinion. 91 shows someone spying on them, then shows Jesus on the last page with binoculars blocking his face from view, so the readers did not know who it was until 92.
As for issue 100 and Negan’s first appearance, I think it’s value will go up some but not like some of the others. It’s just too easy to get. Some local shops in my area are still trying to dump them, one even has most of the variants bundled together to get rid of.
According to ComicChron, issue 100s print run was around 335k.

      2. One thing to consider is, #100 2nd Printing with Negan on the cover instead of the silhouette might be worth picking up. The 2nd printing was around 21k copies.
